I am 39 and preparing to be a Candidate with an Order of Poor Clare nuns. I was born Catholic and knew from the time I was a very small child that I was called to Religious Life. My family were not devoted Catholics and only took me to Mass on Easter and Christmas but I remember walking to Mass daily as it was something I longed to do. When I was in undergraduate school I was in formation with a different order but noticed that I had many questions about the Church that were not being answered and it did not seem safe to ask. I began attending different Protestant churches and have been in the Protestant church for 15 years. This time away from the Catholic Church has been a very difficult time for me, however, it has proven beneficial. One of my deep desires is to see unity in Jesus between Christians. I would not have this passion and deep desire to pray for unity without these years.

Last year, however, God began calling me back to Catholicism and I am pleased to say that I have now returned and am very joyful about it. I have been in very close contact with this Religious Community for 8 years. They saw me through this entire journey and through it all I found my way home to Catholicism and to their community.

I am finally able to begin to answer this beautiful call that I have had for longer than I can remember. I am filled with utter joy that my dream to answer God in this way could actually be fulfilled.

My prayer request is this - I have a very very large amount of student loans but only a short time to enter due to my age. I truly need a miracle to help with my loans. I have always worked for churches throughout the years which has kept me at a very low rate of pay and by the time my loans are paid off I would be 68 years old - Much too late to enter a community.

I do not want my calling to go unanswered, my dreams to answer my Lord to die again, but it will take a great amount of prayer.

Please join with me in prayer.
Blessings,
Elizabeth

That is a beautiful story. There are many people out there who are eager to help with someone’s fulfilling their religious vocation. But they need to be asked. Right now, I am in process of helping a young lady entering religious life in the fall by arranging for people to make “payments” during her first year to get her expenses met. We don’t have all the money in one lump sum, but we can help step by step. There may be someone out there that would do the same for you.

Thank you JHFamily! That in turn, is a beautiful testimony to hope! Because I have been out of the Catholic Church for so long all of my friends (besides my beloved community) are Protestant and are not in support. I am looking into ways to ask but am unsure how to proceed. Please pray for wisdom and guidance!
And thank you … for supporting this young woman fulfill her call. May God richly bless you.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

May the Father’s will be accepted and fulfilled in yourself , Elizabeth .

Praying for God’s will for you.

Have you considered asking the local Knights of Columbus or your parish for help? If you are working at the church others may be likely to help or maybe offer you work that would pay better.

You could always try a go fund me page. If you open more doors, you may find more people helping your cause.

Yes, my parish is a very small parish (I live in the south) and does not have the ability to help.
I have thought of a GoFund Me page as well but I want to make sure that is the Lord’s will. Thank you for your prayers.

When you are looking for money, don’t be quick to lock doors before you open them. If Mother Angelica did that, I wouldn’t be watching much TV. It doesn’t hurt to ask and to let other’s know what you are trying to do.

It isn’t easy. (I know. I have a very hard time asking for help myself.)

Thank you I will pray on how to proceed. Most of my current friends are Protestant and they are not only unsupportive but adamantly against this. Still I am absolutely blessed beyond measure to have three who have stood by me and understand we are all followers of Christ. So I am probably being cautious because of the reactions I get in my area.

But yes, you are right, we must ask. I will continue praying on how He wants me to proceed.
Blessings

How about asking the Knights of Columbus in your diocese and/or in the diocese of the community you wish you enter?

Second job? Third? What skills do you have that could be used to make a little extra money on the side?

I LOVE the Poor Clares and even applied for entrance to a community decades ago. But it wasn’t my vocation, and I never went past the asking stage.

I will absolutely keep you in my prayers!

HI, Thank you I have been in contact with them. It appears their strategy largely depends on contacting friends and family of which I do not have support from either. But I have continued communication with them and will attempt to join the class in January. It requires a three day trip to Montana. So saving up for that over next several months 🙂

I have set a Fundly page we shall see how it goes 🙂 I definitely need God’s help! Thank you!

I just really think the local parishes will help you fundraise, even if they do not know you well. I’ll bend over backwards to help anyone I can with a religious vocation.

I will most certainly try. 🙂 I am trying to be honoring though. I am very new there and I am in no way showing up to Church just to get money so I can enter - I don’t want them to feel that way. So I feel like I am too new to ask right now - but I will 🙂 I just want to respect and honor the Parish. All in His good and perfect timing. Thank you!
