👍 Yes, they have a long way to go, but they’ve done a lot in a very short time. I pray that they are at least able to raise the level of the walls a few feet to keep the river out of the shrine and the town on the other side. These 2 floods, in October 2012 and now this one, have cost the town and area a lot of money, time and effort to repair.

God bless the firemen with their hoses to wash all the mud away!
Yes, some preventive measures should indeed be put in place. Not sure if raising the wall would work. They might have to put some reinforcement behind it to sustain the pressure. But they definitely should look in to the options. The money spent upfront will save them from having to spend huge costs repeatedly when something like this happens.

Yeah, the physics of the retaining wall would have to be solid…Like steel plates or something. Best would be to divert the overflow from upriver. Maybe some kind of dam. It’s amazing that 2 days before this happened, it was a lovely sunny day for the Blessing of the Motorcycles!

Oh hmmm. I am personally not a big fan of this blessing of bikers thing. I feel it is one thing to go and get your mode of transport blessed by the parish priest (bike, car or whichever thing it maybe). But to specifically have the “bless the bikers” day just doesn’t sit well with me because those who call themselves bikers around where I live are known for very many shady activities (sometimes bordering criminal). I also find that the goals and ideologies (if you can call it that) of these gangs tend to be more on the elaborately worldly side rather than just viewing it as a means of transport for the family or oneself (so means to an end). Not to mention their tendency to speed and try and get through every nook and crany on the road. Guess the dislike is partly experiential in that sense.

But yea, I did not know Lourdes has one too.
