Prayer Request for Suicidal Catholic

Greetings~

I need some prayers for a friend of mine who is having many difficulties in her life right now and is considering taking her own life.

Let me just explain. She’s recently been diagnosed with bipolar and borderline personality disorder. When her boss at work found out, he made it his mission to have her fired. It’s so mean I can not even fathom it. He went around to all the other employeees and told them she was ‘mentally unstable’ and that they all needed to keep and eye on her. He gave them all evaluation sheets to fill out on her so that he could get her fired.

And in addition to that, her home is in foreclosure, she must find a new place for her family to live by September 9th. She has recently filed for bankruptcy so no one wants to rent to her. She’s in an abusive marriage to a man who has an addiction and it looks as if they might be homeless soon along with their 2 children.

She has told me that it seems the only way out is suicide. Apparently when she told her psychologist about her desire to take her own life, the psychologist said, “you don’t seem that depressed to me.”

I am beside myself trying to help her but I can’t give her money or anything to change her circumstance like that. I even wonder if Jesus can help her. It all seems to overwhelming and hopeless.

Can anyone recommend anything, a book, a prayer, a suggestion to help this poor woman end her suffering without taking her own life? She is a Catholic with great devotion to Mary but as she suffers she grows further away from God. It’s as if the more she suffers, the less she trusts God.

Prayers would be great, too. Please pray for Hildagard (her confirmation name).

Prayers are certainly in order but perhaps there is more that can be done as well. If you know her counselor, or can get her/his name and number, I think you should call and let them know your concerns right away. This would also apply to telling her family if she is still at home or they are nearby. Remember, you are only hearing one side of the story and there may be other things going on about which the psycologist is aware but that you are not. That said, however, suicide threats should always be taken seriously in my opinion and this person may be hoping that you will somehow get the word out.

Get the help that was suggested in a few of these posts and also just keep saying Hail Mary’s and I will do the same. Those children need their mother and we need to turn to the Mother of God so she can go to Her Son. My prayers are with you and your friend.

If you are only hearing her side of the story I would try to keep from taking all she has said as “gospel truth”. This may sound mean but people often color what has happened to them. But I would take her problems and thoughts of sucide seriously. Here is a prayer of healing that I found. At first glace it may seem not to apply to her, but she may have done things or have other problems that you don’t know of. I hope it helps and we will pray for her as well:blessyou:

PRAYER FOR INNER HEALING

Lord Jesus, you came to heal our wounded and troubled hearts. I beg you to heal the torments that cause anxiety in my heart; I beg you, in a particular way, to heal all who are the cause of sin. I beg you to come into my life and heal me of the psychological harms that struck me in my early years and from the injuries that they caused throughout my life.

Lord Jesus, you know my burdens. I lay them all on your Good Shepherd’s Heart. I beseech you–by the merits of the great, open wound in your heart-- to heal the small wounds that are in mine. Heal the pain of my memories, so that nothing that has happened to me will cause me to remain in pain and anguish, filled with anxiety.

Heal O Lord, all those wounds that have been the cause of all the evil that is rooted in my life. I want to forgive all those who have offended me. Look to those inner sores that make me unable to forgive. You who came to forgive the afflicted of heart, please, heal my own heart.

Heal, my Lord Jesus, those intimate wounds that cause me physical illness. I offer you my heart. Accept it, Lord, purify it and give me the sentiments of your Divine Heart. Help me to be meek and humble.

I forgot to add that you must watch that you don’t get emotionally exhausted listening and helping her. We must always remember that God can help her and we are just His instruments. I speak from experience, as I also get so emotionally involved that I burn out and all I had to do was make an act of trust in God, that He can and will help her and you.:bowdown: Keep up your prayers and be at peace.
 
I would suggest that you ask her to find another therapist. Go to catholictherapist.com to find a Catholic therapist to help her find a Catholic therapist who goes by the Church’s teachings in her area. Also she needs to talk to a trusted priest about her entire situation.

There are many government programs that could help her out financially and with food and clothing. I know there has to be a woman’s program out there where battered women can go with their children.

She needs help and you can direct her to some help as well as pray for her. I am glad you care so much for her. I am concerned about her children. She needs to realize that they depend on her and she needs to be strong for them even if it means that she has to separate herself and the children from the abuse until he is cured. I know that over here we have a program for battered women and children, but they also have one for the those violent men to get treated with their abusive ways.

Also if she was unfairly fired, she could apply for unemployment. She might even be able to get a lawyer who deals with wrongful determination or discrimination to help her out. Some of these lawyers don’t even charge unless the person wins the case.
 
I believe there is a saint for the mentally ill. I think its ST. DYMPHNA or something like that … 🙂
 
You may also try your local St. Vincent de Paul and Catholic Charities. They have resources and contacts of people who would be able to help.

My prayers are with you and your friend. I recently had a cousin who committed suicide and it is very difficult for all of her family.

Since your friend has trust and faith in God and a devotion to Mary, have her meditate on the sorrowful mysteries of the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross.

Jesus and Mary know and understand her pain.

Mary had to flee her country in order to save Jesus from death; they know homelessness.

Jesus was born in a stable; they know poverty.

Jesus was often not understood, many called Him crazy or unclean; they know persecution.

Jesus and Mary were the only ones who really understood Jesus’ Passion and Death; they know loneliness and abandonment.

Also, encourage her to offer her pain to God; Jesus came to sanctify pain and transform it into grace to help us better understand Him and to bring all souls closer to Him. Using our pain through Jesus to benefit others gives us purpose.

“I can do all things in Him who strengthens me.” Phil. 4:13

“We know that in everything God works for good with those who love Him.” Romans 8:28
 
I will pray… I know exactly what it’s like… I’m bipolar and have been suicidal at times.

I really appreciate all of the information, prayers and suggestions here. I’m really glad I posted this, although I was a bit concerned at first that it was too scary of a topic for these message boards.

I just got done rereading The Gospell of Gabriel by Edward Hays and considering everything that Jesus and his disciples went through, it really gave me hope for her situation…not only because of all the amazing and hopefull things Jesus said but the awe of what He accomplished. God’s will be done and I know God’s will is not for her to live in misery but to inherit the Kingdom. So I’m going to keep praying and encouraging her to find comfort in Jesus and Mary.

Lastly, thanks so much for the prayers people have copied here. I’ll print them out and use them.

My Prayers are with Her tell her we all love her and can help her
Two things here 1.get her to a preist he can aide with temp shelter and prayer children food.2 if drugs are involved he needs
to be turned in and get treatment and has no bussiness around children!Although I will pray for both and I love the sinner but hate the Sin.If shes by polar shell need to get medical a md can get her medicine to help her moods with by polar.Which may get rid of the sucide thoughts like others have said mental hygene my be in order.Let her know shes not the only one going through forcloure its happening all over the USA.theres light at the end of the tunnel stay focussed on God ride the storm.many others are too.Shes not alone,keep me posted on this if you would.Theres options gotta keep focused GOD BLESS
