Prayer Request: Soldiers from the 256th

Hi. I would like to open this thread for everyone to please say a prayer for all the men in the 256th Infantry Brigade out of Louisiana. Really to pray for all the service men and women over seas fighting. Recently, a lot of , good ole boys went to iraq. My husband was in the 173rd Airborne out of Italy, but was discharged just in time not to have to go over there. Then he comes home to the National Guard unit 256th. Then, they were getting deployed. You have to understand, there was about 6,000 soilders or so leaving the state of Louisinana. But, then his medical discharge papers came in again, right in the nick of time so he missed going twice. I thank God every day for that.
Yesterday, the first of the guys around here died. J. Reed from Krotz Springs, LA. He has a wife & a 10-month old baby. Please if you could, pray for the family to get through this.
Also, please pray for my two brothers, one is still in bootcamp, but they told him that he would go when he got out in a few months. The other is leaving this coming tuesday for Iraq. I also have a cousin in the 256th who is currently in Bagdad.
It’s incredibaly hard when your whole family is military. So if you guys wouldn’t mind, please pray for all these guys.

Dirt Equals Work

Army Spc. Chris Ott, a tank mechanic with the Louisiana National Guard’s 199th Forward Support Battalion, may have the filthiest set of coveralls in Iraq.

Ott, who goes by the nickname “Pig Pen,” is one of the mechanics responsible for ensuring the 256th Brigade Combat Team’s Abrams tanks work well for the soldiers who take them “outside the wire.”

He takes the state of his coveralls in stride. “If you ain’t dirty, you ain’t working,” the specialist said. “You do what you have to to make sure the equipment works.”

Conditions in the motor pool are Spartan to say the least. Ott’s coveralls are impregnated with the Iraqi dirt and mud that he works in and are saturated with all the fluids that are used in M1A1s.

It’s been noticed that no one lights a match around Ott when he’s wearing the coveralls. If they caught on fire they would probably burn for three days.

**Mardi Gras Parade for Baghdad? **

Americans bring their traditions and celebrations with them wherever they go, and Baghdad is no different.

Louisianans with the 256th Brigade Combat Team are preparing for Mardi Gras on Feb. 8. Mardi Gras decorations are starting to appear on doors and desks throughout the brigade, and some units have already received their supplies of beads. “I’d like to pass most of them out to Iraqi kids,” said Army Capt. Chris Armstrong, commander of Headquarters Company, 1088th Engineer Battalion. “Wouldn’t that be great?”

The main focus for the brigade has been on providing security for the elections, Armstrong said. “But after the elections, we can celebrate our Louisiana heritage here,” he said. And who knows? Perhaps for the day the main road in Camp Victory will be renamed Bourbon Street.

Thank you for that gilliam. I knew that a couple of the local buisnesses were offering to pay for Mardi Gras supplies to be sent overseas. I think it’s such a wonderful thing that they sent over that stuff. I just know that around here, Mardi Gras won’t be as magical as it is supposed to be.

They& their families have been and will remain in our prayers. Our pastor from Chicago is due to deploy as Chaplain in the next 2weeks to Iraq. He is stationed right now at Camp LeJeune in NorthCarolina. I recently baptized a baby whose mother is due to be deployed to Iraq soon. God be with them always!
 
Prayer for the Army
Lord God of hosts, stretch forth, we pray, your almighty arm to strengthen and protect the soldiers of our country. Support them in the day of battle, and in the time to test and training keep them safe from all evil. Endow them with courage and loyalty; and grant that in all things they may serve without reproach; throug Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Marine Corps
Eternal Father, we commend to your protection and care the members of the Marine Corps. Guide and direct them in the defense of our country and in the maintenance of justice among the nations. Sustain them in the hour of danger. Grant that wherever they serve they may be loyal to their high traditions, and that at all times they may put their trust in you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Navy
Eternal Lord God, you alone spread out the heavens and rule the raging sea. Take into your most gracious protection our country’s Navy and all who serve therein. Preserve them from the dangers of the sea and grom the violence of the enemy, that they may be a safeguard unto the [state the name of the country e.g. United States of America, and a security for such as sail upon the seas in peaceful and lawful missions. In serving you, O Lord, may our sailors serve their country; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

**Prayer for the Air Force
Lord God of hosts, you stretch out the heavens like a curtain. Watch over and protect, we pray, the airmen of our country as they fly upon their appointed tasks. Give them courage as they face the foe, and skill in the performance of their duty. Sustain them with your everlasting arms. May your hand lead them, and your right hand hold them us, that they may return to the earth with a grateful sense of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the Coast Guard
Lord our God, who stilled the raging of the seas by your word of power; watch over, we pray you, the men and women of the Coast Guard as they sail upon their missions of vigilant aid. Grant them courage and skill and a safe return. Fill them with a grateful sens of your mercy toward them; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

First of all, I pray for the soldier who died and for his family.

Eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Remember oh most gracious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence I fly unto thee oh Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. Oh Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Oh most blessed Sorrowful Mother of God, you know what it is like to lose a loved one. You know the bitter agony of losing someone whom you love so very much. Because of this I ask you to please intercede for J. Reed’s family. Please pray to God that the Holy Spirit would be with them and that angels would surround them and comfort them as only you and God know how to do. Oh most blessed Sorrowful Mother of God, please also pray for the repose of J. Reed’s soul. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Dearest Jesus, we know that Saint Joseph who was your foster father and who raised you with Mary likely died during your life. Therefore You, oh Jesus, know the bitter pains of losing a loved one. You Who are fully human and have felt all emotions that all humans do experience know what grief feels like. Therefore oh dear Jesus, I ask You to please send the Holy Spirit to be with this family during their grief. Jesus, please comfort them during this time of sorrow. Oh Jesus, I also ask of You to shorten the time that J. Reed must spend in Purgatory if he is still in Purgatory so that he may enter the company of You, the Blessed Mother, God the Father, God the Holy Spirit, and all the saints and others who have gone on before us. Thank You oh dearest Jesus. You are our Lord and God and we love You beyond all things. Amen.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou oh prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into Hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
