Please pray for me. I am bi-polar and I am going through a depressive cycle right now. I have missed Mass 2 consecutive Sundays. I need to go to Confession but I feel that there is a brick wall separating me from going to the confessional. The problems associated with this are that I don’t want to leave the house, I am afflicted with “acedia”, there are vicious gossips that stand in the confessional line and I have panic/ anxiety attacks.

I want to go to Confession this afternoon; please pray that all psychological and spiritual barriers are removed that stand between me and the confessional. Also, pray that I overcome this depression and “acedia”- I can’t even pray my devotions this morning.

Thank you and God bless you!

Paul

Dear Paul,

Sometimes I pray to my guardian angel, St. Padre Pio, St. Faustina, St. Teresa, St. John Vianney, to help me make a good confession and to come into the confessional with me so I won’t have to go in there alone. I can get nervous in there too so that I miss hearing what the penance is and have to ask the priest to repeat it!

Praying for you from today’s Liturgy of the Hours:

Be generous with the gifts of your Spirit:
patience, kindness and gentleness.
– Lord, help us to serve God.

Give us the gift of loving you,
so that we may possess you, for you yourself are love.
– Lord, help us to serve God.

Give us the gift of doing good,
so that we may praise you simply by living.
– Lord, help us to serve God.

Grant that we may seek whatever is best for our brethren
and ease their path to salvation.
– Lord, help us to serve God.

Dear Paul,

I have a son that struggles with bi-polar so I sympathize with your situation.

Heavenly Father, please I beg you to help Paul, your child in baptism, to embrace the cross of his suffering by your grace and power as Jesus did so that he may come to you in confession and so that he may be immersed again in the peace of your word of forgiveness. Remind him that just as we worship with all the angels and saints - the Church in heaven as well as the Church on earth, all the host of heaven, the great cloud of witnesses are present for him in the confessional, praying for mercy and strength for him. Help him find medical treatment that will ease the burden of this cross for him and thereby show your glory to the world. I ask this along with the intercessions of Mary our Mother, and all the angels and saints through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Praying for you Paul that you will know just how precious you are to our heavenly Father, that you will be able to experience your confession as a reunion with that unending love.

Some parishes will make appointments for confession - you might want to contact your parish to see if this is an option for you since you find the other way so difficult just now.

Also - consider praying for those whose lives may cause them to gossip even in line for confession - they need your prayers.

Blessings - Fr. Henri Nouwen wrote -
We are not what we do. We are not what we have. We are not what others think of us. Coming home is claiming the truth. I am the beloved child of a loving Creator.
Always remember, you Paul, are the beloved child of God. :hug3:

Try to pray, and if you can’t, the Holy Spirit will pray for you. Try praying," Jesus, Mercy ", the Lord WILL hear your prayer.

Jesus, my God, I love You with my whole heart and above all things,
because You are the One Supreme Good and an infinitely perfect Being.
You have given Your life for me, a poor sinner, and in Your mercy You
have even offered Yourself as food for my soul.
My God, I love You. Inflame my heart to love You more.
Amen.

Loving God please give this person peace of mind, through healing and stabilization;
and peace of soul, through Confession today.
Thank You loving God

Lord, please help Paul to know that he can make an appointment to meet with his priest when he desires to go to confession and doesn’t have to wait in lines. Please grant him healing and strength to persevere in his Catholic faith despite his illness. Amen.

Dear Forum Members-

I am overwhelmed with your outpouring of prayer support. I had a good nights sleep, woke up refreshed but failed to go to Confesion today. The old fears and psycholgical and spiritual barriers popped up this afternoon. I am praying my rosary tonight with the intention of being led by the Holy Spirit into thhe Confessional tomorrow on Shrove Tuesday and giving a good confession.

Thank you for your prayers. You are awesome and God is even more awesome!

In Gratitude,

Paul

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.
Amen.

My husband is bi-polar so I can truly sympathize with you. I wll be praying for you, and remember that St. Dymphna is the patron saint of those with mental illness. Pray to her and she will help you.

THE PRAYER,
SAVE THE AFFLICTED
We beseech thee, Master,
to be our helper and protector.
Save the afflicted among us;
have mercy on the lowly;
raise up the fallen;
appear to the needy;
heal the ungodly;
restore the wanderers of thy people;
feed the hungry;
ransom our prisoners;
raise up the sick;
comfort the faint-hearted.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
