Dear LMU,My 4th novena ended with a very disturbing and morale-sapping conversation with my wife. Christmas was very difficult for me, and my children are wondering what is going on.
My wife seemed on the verge of telling me it was over, but when I asked her if she had chosen, she still said she didn’t know.
My heart has been beating harder and faster over the last week. I feel so defeated. My sins of failure in my marriage have truly come back to haunt me and my family. I so regret having played into Satan’s hands.
And my wife is so far from God. I have been praying for her conversion much more fervently lately. In many ways, I think that is what I should be praying for rather than to save our marriage. I do pray that God will have mercy on me and use my marriage to heal our wounds and bring my wife and my children to Himself, but that isn’t my call, obviously.
Please pray for my wife. 5th novena prayer was said this morning.
I will keep you specifically in my prayers going forward. I am now trying to connect with the Catholic community who are in a similar situation to mine. My story shares several points to yours although my marriage has been much shorter so far. I have been battling a divorce and annulment now for 5 years and yesterday my wife has forfeited her standing with the true Church by marrying in the Greek Orthodox because I have an active appeal to the Vatican which will likely declare our marriage valid and this prevents her from marrying in the Church. Now my primary prayer is for my wife to return to God and that our two small children will still be raised in our Catholic faith although that appears unlikely if she has abandoned the Church in order to get married.
In Christ through Mary,
