This goes back to the value of life right? You were telling us how that is what your faith is all about. Yet, abortion and now this. Jewish life I am guessing here in this case is what you value in order of importance.

Right?
Absolutely Torah embraces life. which is why we call on God to smite those who are bent on destroying it. It has nothing to do with “Jewish life” being more valuable. When a Hitler comes along (may his name be blotted from memory), we can absolutely pray to God to destory him.

Look at your psalms. They’re not all about love and rainbows.

We pray for the smiting and rebuking of our enemies, sure even in the words of the Psalms - but only our spiritual enemies. The devil and his minions.

Jesus said ‘fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.’ (Matthew 10:28)

He certainly doesn’t mean for us to fear or call down wrath upon a Hitler or a bin Laden, only justice perhaps - but first and foremost repentance and salvation for all.

I’m sorry to derail this thread but I just had to respond. I think it would be very dangerous for Hitler’s name to be blotted from memory, lest another Hitler-type does come along. I think people need to know what he did and how many people suffered at his hands. We should never forget. We should always remember and take precautions to make sure nothing like that ever happens again.

Okay, end of my thread derail…

thank you for that reply. I think when Jews say this, they are praying, really, that he did not even exist. It is a kind of paradox based on the scriptural command to that “You shall blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!” Me must never forget not to remember 🙂

Amalek is a symbol of evil and anti-Semetism. His presence invokes a world without awe of God.
