Lately, I have been exploring the spirituality of the Christian East, and have found it very enriching to my prayer life. However, as I am a college student, I have very little money. Would anyone know where I can find a good quality prayer rope (chotki) very cheaply?

Thanks

Have you inquired at the local Orthodox churches?

How many knots are you looking for?

Try rosaryarmy.com - they both give away knotted twine rosaries AND teach you how to make your own. Easily transferrable skills, of course, to the making of chotkis.

If making your own chotki seems too daunting, I’m sure you could request one from them :yup: :byzsoc:

If they do give you one make sure to pray for them though.

If you would like to PM me your mailing address I will crochet one for you, no charge. Tell me how many knots you want - 33, 50 or 100. This is what I did until I could afford to buy an actual knotted one.

I have a cord rosary AND a chotki, and the rosary knot is not (no pun intented) the same as the chotki knot.

Once I knew how to tie chotki. It’s a complex process and takes 17 yards of material and minimum of 12 hours to tie 100 knots (standard length).

I don’t think God or the poster here minds whether the knots are tied in the correct authentic way or not. Awesome that you made the effort to acquire the skills though :tiphat:
