I do this before going to sleep every day, I repeat it 33 times (fore each knot a prayer). But I also pray when I am in a slow running traffic jam.

:)Nice to see that I am not the only one that prays in the time normally wasted in a traffic jam.

Just a note of caution, keep your eyes “always” on the road and do not pray when traffic is moving fast!

I do the same thing, I Pray more driving than any other time. Yup definatly have to watch the road.😉

Our parish book group is currently reading Metropolitan Anthony Bloom’s wonderful book Living Prayer. The book has much to commend it including his chapter on the Jesus Prayer. (The other chapters are The Lord’s Prayer, Meditation and worship, Unanswered prayer and petition, and Silence.) It may be the shortest book we’ve read, and the one we are spending the most time with. 🙂

Personally, I use the Jesus Prayer in MY Prayer Rope.👍
 
Dear Friends,

In fact, the prayer rope was once the universal rosary of the entire Church, East and West! It was only later that beads etc. were used on chains for prayer.

The Dominican Fathers used to wrap their rosary-prayer ropes around their left wrists, just as Orthodox/Eastern Catholic priests and bishops (and laity who should try to get a blessing from their parish priest to do this, if they can) have always done.

To this day, the knotted cord rosary is still THE most popular rosary throughout the world and is distributed through Catholic missions everywhere (including to Catholic military personnel by their chaplains since beads and chains can be detected by enemy metal detectors . . .).

There are several great reads on the sublect if you are so inclined. Of course the the best know is The way of a pilgrim, a modern day book is “A short trip to the edge” by Scott Cairns, you can get them on eBay at a resonable cost.

Seems that each tradition has its’ own little variation of the prayer and use of chotkis. I guess the main thing to remember is that the chotki is a prayer counting tool - not a lucky charm. If using the chotki enhances your prayer, causes you to prayer more deeply or more frequently it is doing its’ job - showing you a closer walk with Him.
