It was recommended that I create a daily prayer schedule with strict times. Any ideas on prayers and times? I have the Rosary and Chaplet of Mercy scheduled. Thanks in advance…

You know, i did create a prayer schedule a few months back, but when i prayed, i prayed mostly for the discipline to stick to my prayer schedule:D. Although i still struggle a little bit i’m getting the hang of if now and it has really added structure to my life. My initial schedule was pretty much like; Wake up
-say morning prayer
-attend morning mass (i live next to my parish so its awfully convenient + i’m a college student with free mornings)
-spend some time in adoration, reflecting on the Gospel.
Then… during the day, i fill up my time with divine mercy chaplet while driving or the rosary on longer commutes.
-then i end with night prayer.
It kinda worked but then i discovered the Liturgy of the hours.
The Liturgy of the Hours is awesome!!! i got the iBeviary app, and then just prayed with it in the morning, midday(or thereabout) and at night. Now my schedule is more like;
-Wake up
-say Office of the Readings
-attend mass
-adoration + Rosary
-Noon prayer
-Compline (Night prayer)
I still say the divine mercy during the day, while driving , doing chores etc. i find it easier to say the rosary in the morning while i’m still focused and clear-headed as opposed to the evening when i dose off. It is a learning process, as you will find what works best for you at certain times. But, i definitely recommend the liturgy of the hours, if u don’t use it already.👍

I highly recommend the practice, it’s a great way to ensure we are praying without ceasing (as St Paul tells us) and it’s a great way to ensure we are not only praying when we feel like it or need something from God. That being said, I also highly recommend starting small. Schedule a morning offering, a night prayer, and 5 mins of mental prayer. After 21 days (that’s how long it takes for something to stick), add in a rosary or some Bible reading, eventually working to a full day. I’d be very hesitant to jump into too much right away. That can be a sure way to make sure you don’t end up sticking to the plan. God bless.

I also have the following on my calendar daily:

Prayer upon waking/morning offering
St. Michael the Archangel at 10
Angelus at Noon
Self Dedication to Jesus 5:00
Prayer before Crucifix: bedtime/10:00 PM

I do the Rosary and Divine Mercy at various times/places.

I have my Google calendar set up to notify me: it can do so through email, pop ups on my phone, or text. I have them set to recurring daily, plus additional prayers on Mass times. The prayers are on the calendar, so they are right there in front of me.

I’ve been following a prayer schedule for morning and evening prayer, for over 30 years now.

I get up in the morning, exercise, shower then do my 30 minutes of praying the LOTH’s and 20 minutes of Quiet Prayer.

Evening, it’s Evening Prayer, followed by 20 Minutes of Quiet Prayer.

I also pray during the day as well, and Day Time Prayer from the LOTH’s is included, but this isn’t a set scheduled time and not necessarily done everyday, like morning and evening prayer.

It’s become much easier now that I’m retired, but I always made sure I got up early enough to do at least my 30 minutes of prayer, even when I didn’t exercise.

Keeping a schedule becomes your way of life and love for that scheduled time becomes deeper as the Lord blesses you with his graces.

I highly recommend that people follow a prayer schedule.

Jim,
That’s a great schedule but maybe you could squeaze in about 9 more rosaries and about 2 Way of the Cross’s. That would fill in some of your free time.

Fred, why don’t you do them for me. 😛

I agree with this. If you’re going directly from no schedule to one that requires a time commitment eight times a day, you may find it overwhelming and difficult to adhere to. Though some people might be perfectly fine with such a dramatic change, many others won’t be. Give yourself time to adjust.

It took me six years to go from no set daily prayer schedule to the one I have today, which requires about three hours in five separate prayer sessions spread out over a sixteen-hour day (and does not include prayers that I don’t pray year-round, such as certain novenas). Even then I’m not always faithful to it.

Slip in to your schedule some prayers for your deceased loved ones and all the holy souls in purgatory…the st gertrude holy souls prayer would be perfect to pray

I think we should give it to Upupandaway who only has 3 hours of prayers plus devotions. We need to be fair.
Well, aren’t you sweet! I’m sure The Husband will understand why I can’t do the housework and cooking anymore.
