For Prisoners

O Divine Prisoner of the sanctuary,
Who for love of us and for our salvation
not only enclosed Yourself
within the narrow confines of human nature
and then hid Yourself under the veils of the Sacramental Species,
but also continually live in the tabernacle!
Hear our prayer which rises to You
from within these walls
and which longs to express to You our affection,
our sorrow, and the great need we have of You in our tribulations,
above all, in the loss of freedom which so distresses us.

Grant, 0 Divine Saviour,
help and resignation to the dear ones

Father, it is not only the prisoners who suffer during the trial and conviction, just or unjust, it is also their families who suffer profoundly with them.
In consideration of Your Son, unjustly arrested, tried, convicted, and cruelly used, and the suffering and grief of His Mother, please have mercy on prisoners and their families.

Loving Lord please be present to prisoners in their cells, speaking into their hearts and souls of Your love, goodness and truth.
Please protect them from spiritual and physical danger and abuse, from discouragement and hardening of heart. Please turn their hearts to Your love and grace.

Where they are innocent, please console and bring about their freedom,
where they are guilty draw them to repentance and to resolution to be true Christians.
Grant that their good behavior results in light sentence or avoidance of imprisonment or early release

Their families, though not imprisoned, yet torn by the situation of their loved ones and the conseque

‘Lord, you offer freedom to all people. We pray for those in prison. Break the bonds of fear and isolation that exist. Support with your love prisoners and their families and friends, prison staff and all who care. Heal those who have been wounded by the actions of others, especially the victims of crime. Help us to forgive one another, to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly together with Christ in His strength and in His Spirit, now and every day.’

Father of Mercy, the secrets of all hearts are known to you alone. You know who is just and you forgive the unjust. You alone are the Almighty Judge. We are not worthy of judging anyone. Your mercy is enough for sinners. Hear our prayers for those in prison. Give them repentance and let them believe in you. Give them patience and hope in their sufferings, and bring them home again soon. Comfort their near and dear ones. Let them trust in Jesus Christ and live with hope. Most gracious Father,
bless with your special care
all penitentiaries and homes of refuge.
Look with pity on those who are housed there.
Guide and protect those who have returned to the world.

Lead them along from grace to grace
so that by the help of the Holy Spirit
they may persevere in the ways of obedience and humility,
and in the struggle against evil thoughts and desires.
Grant the Holy Spirit
to those engaged in teaching and training them,
that they might have a right judgment
with respect to those entrusted to them.
