I’m no sure exactly where to post this, but I was wondering…
So, we’re allowed to pray to Mary & the Saints for intercessory prayer but before a Saint is canonized, two miracles must be performed through intercesion, right?
So, could I for example pray to my passed away ancestors to ask for their intercession?

Pax,

Sebastiano

Canonized Saints, those the Church assures us are in Heaven have this requirement. The Communion of Saints are all those people already in Heaven. If you deceased ancestors are in heaven then they will be able to intercede for you. I often talk to my deceased mother and say if she can help me please do so – i feel she is in heaven.

I would encourage you to have a relationship with several canonized saints but above all our Blessed Mother. She will lead you to Jesus more strongly than any as she is the most perfert fully human creature created and has the strongest relationship with the Holy Trinity. She was picked by God the Father to be the mother of His Son. She is the spouse of the Holy Spirit and will always be the mother of Jesus. It is hard to say no to such credentials. The mother of the King of Kings has some clout. May God always help you in your prays.

Thank you. Of course I love Mother Mary and pray to her a lot. Sometimes though I want to “talk” with my deceased relatives and I wanted to make sure that that is okay…

Thank you very much.

Wouldn’t praying to God himself get you better results than praying to somebody less than him? 🤷

It is often said that God acts through His creatures. One of the greatest and most efficient forms of prayer is to have a Mass offerred for the repose of his/her soul - it will matter not whether they are in purgatory or in heaven because the effects of your Mass will have already taken place at the instance of their death. Afterwards it is sufficient just to think of your relative; which is similarly a form of instant prayer.

One cannot say. It is not possible to quantify the results of prayer.

But God does incline his ear to the righteous.
Who among us is more righteous then the one already in heaven?

Think of it as asking your friend to pray for you.
😉

So how else are these miracles to happen unless we ask for them first?

The stages prior to Canonization authorize certain groups to pray to the one being considered for the honor. However, I think these authorize public prayer; I don’t know of any limitation on private prayer.

I know a priest who often prays to his brother, who died as an infant, and believes that that has been an important support to his priesthood. Of course it is certain that the infant went straight to Heaven.
