HI everyone,
The kids are so much better without their dad demanding his rights of visitation. Luis sees his dad when he wants to spend a couple of hours, but he lost Marissa. He lied to her on her birthday and lost her respect and trust in him. The dad did see them on Christmas Day and today he spent some hours with Luis, but Marissa did not want to go with him. She told me that she doesn’t plan on going with him anywhere anymore. She will if he goes back to making them go to his house. Christmas day was not a good day for Marissa at her dads. They gave Luis many toys, but they gave Marissa a tiny little key ring for her camera with the letter M on it. She noticed that her stocking was not hung on the fireplace and her step mom said, “That’s right yours is not up there.” The step mom was very mean to her on Christmas day.

Norma has received no child support now for months and it is time to go back to court. Her attorney is filing for it. The ex is not doing well financially at all. He is not able to work as a cop for some reason and is now working as a security guard. Norma told me today that if he doesn’t start to give her the child support that she has no other choice but to go back to court. He begged her to wait for two more weeks and he would give her something. She feels sorry for him and is afraid that if she does go to court, he will demand to see the kids again and Luis is finally releasing some of that anger in healthy ways.

Thanks for continuing to pray for this family. I love all of you and pray that the Lord will bless your kindness. Norma is talking to a man she met at a singles website and it is getting serious. Please pray for her. I started a thread about it in the Family Life forum and yes, I have told Norma that she is still married until she can get an annulment and this man was not granted an annulment by the Church. She needs to stop talking to this man at all, but she is stubborn and looking for affection and attention from a man. Please pray for her too.😉

:gopray: continuing to pray.
Thank you. I just wanted to let all of you know that we may have a break through with Luis. HIs mood would change and still does in an instant. He would be smiling and the next very angry. He is much better with not going to his dad, so that environment did make him worse, but continues to have problems. My sister switched from his child psychologist to a Behavioral Therapist and this man seems to think that Luis’ symptoms could be Bipolar Personality Disorder. He does have it in the family on his dad’s side. We pray that it is not and I have suspected it for some time and have begged my sister that he should see a psychiatrist, but she wanted to hear it from professionals. She will make the appointment now and that is what is important for Luis’ sake and the rest of us who care for him.

Marissa continues to do well, but feels that she comes second to Luis and is very jealous. I can’t blame her, but maybe when Luis gets on medication, things will be normal in that household.

Dear Nana…giving thanks for any breakthroughs and continuining to keep you and the whole situation in daily prayer…Barb

Hi everyone and thanks for your continued prayers.

Luis saw his psychiatrist today for the first time. He is not Bipolar thank God, but was diagnosed with SID or Sensory Integration Disorder. The doctor is putting him on a lose dose of antidepressant to see if it will help him in his behavior and sleep better.

Both kids miss their dad and have called him twice this week to see if he would come to visit them, but their dad said that he is too busy and his wife is sick. Oh well, the kids are better off without seeing him daily, but they still want to see him understandably.

Hi everyone, I will post this here and in a new thread for we need a lot of prayers.* My sister, Norma, just called me crying from her work.* She received a call from Luis’ school for he was violent in school and was calling the teacher names like “stupid, idiot” and he told one of the teachers to “go to hell.”* We don’t cuss in our family, but he learned that word from his dad’s household and the teenagers.* She had to go pick him up and is beside herself.* Luis is not bipolar according to the psychiatrist but is on a antidepressant, but has had only two doses so far.* He may be asked this time to leave the school and we don’t blame the school at all, they have been really patient through all this.* My sister feels that homeschooling is her only option, but she is a single parent and not receiving child support from her ex at all for months.* Please, please pray for Norma to do whatever it is that God may be asking of her.* I do feel that Luis will do much better with homeschooling, but I can’t do it even though I am willing for dh won’t allow it.* He has a temper and than to bring a child with a temper in would be a bad mix.* I am still going to ask dh again today and if it be God’s will, he will agree to it and if not, Norma will have to quit her job and stay home with her son to homeschool him, but have no income whatsoever.* Any advice would be appreciated as to what you would do if this was your child.* As I said I will post this in a new thread as well, for I think many have gotten tired of this thread and I don’t blame them at all.* This is a problem that has lasted for years and may last for many more years to come.

I don’t know how it works in the States, but surely there is some department that offers assistance for situations like this. Here, I would say, go to Centrelink and sign up for the single Parenting Payment and any other assistance programs for which Norma and the kids would qualify. This program was set up specifically to help single/separated/divorced parents to be able to bring up their children where there is no other source of income and working is not feasable with commitments to children at home. Is there an equivalent of the single parenting payment in Florida?

If there isn’t anything available from the government, does the Church have anything? - check with your parish priest

Praying that a resolution to this financial/schooling crisis presents itself, praying also for Marissa, Luis and Norma, and you, Nana, that the Lord be with you and sustain you.
Amen

ps - tell Marissa that I am praying for her particularly since Christmas at her dad’s was so horrible.

Thank you Linda Marie for your prayers.

No, Florida does not have anything that helps single parents, nor any states that I am aware of. I know she could apply for food stamps and medicaid for the kids if they had no medical insurance, but she does for the dad has them on his plan. She did find out through the psychiatrist that because Luis because requires beyond what the medical insurance will cover, may qualify for SSI for him. It has to do with his Social Security and I am not familiar with it all, but that alone would help so much for his occupational therapy (OT) is $400.00 a month. The psychiatrist even told her that it was necessary and she could not miss taking him to an OT. The medical insurance does not pay for this OT and if SSI does that would be great. She did try to apply for food stamps at one time and they denied it because she is suppose to be getting child support, but is not. I don’t know if she applied again and showed them proof that the ex is not paying, if they would give her the food stamps.

Thanks for your prayers and thanks for praying especially for Marissa. She is suffering from depression. This weekend she told her mom that she did not want to go to 4H anymore. She loves horses it is her passion and she doesn’t care anymore about them. That is not normal for her. She has been depressed since the divorce, but I find her worse.

:gopray: Father God we lift this family to you, so much happening and so many changes are affecting them. Father bring stability and understanding to their lives. Continue to be with them through this period of turmoil. Bring them through Lord as only You can do.

Holy Guardian Angels of these children, please protect them, as God has appointed you to do - particularly when they are out of the control or sight of those who would protect them.

St. Dymphna, help this case of someone who would abuse God’s children. And, St. Jude and St. Rita of Cascia, patrons of impossible cases - help those who have prayed and waited, thinking their case is impossible to be answered…Make the answer to their prayers possible, as God wills it in the name of Jesus and through the intercession of Mary, Thy Most Holy Mother. Amen.

Thanks Rebusrms and Conservative for your prayers. My sister did have to stop the antidepressant for that was making my nephew hallucinate and become violent.

My sister is thinking of homeschooling both of her kids next school year if it will be the Lords’ will. He would have to provide her with a job that she could do at home. She is a massage therapist and is thinking of doing that, but you have to be real good to make enough money to pay the bills monthly. Please pray that the Lord will provide her a job that will make homeschooling possible. I think both kids would do so well with the one on one attention.

Hi everyone, may the Lord continue to bless you for your generosity to us.

My computer crashed and was in the repair shop for weeks, so I have not posted. Anyway, my nephew punched his principal and teacher last Tuesday, the 15th. The principal told my sister that he did not think that that school was the correct school for my sister. He did not expell him, but did say one more incident and he would be expelled. My sister called the school and told them that he would not be returning to school. My sister is going to try to homeschool him when she gets home after 6 pm. daily and on weekends. I wanted to, but my dh said no due to the explosive anger this little boy has and he is stronger than me. I wanted to try at least, but he said no way.

In the meantime, the behavioral therapist and the psychiatrist feel that Luis would benefit more from neurostimulation instead of regular Occupational therapy for a kid with sensory integration problems. My poor sister is working three jobs in order to pay for some of it for medical insurance will not pay for it. He needs 50 treatments at $150.00 a treatment and ideally 5 treatments a week is prefered. My parents are paying for most of them, but Luis had his first treatment on Monday and had a lot of anger afterwards, but they told my sister to expect that. He will get three treatments this week to start off. The dad still has not paid child support of paid half of all medical treatment. He now owes a total of $6600.00 in child support and that doesn’t include the medical bills. My sister is so afraid to take him to court, but is feeling that she has no choice and if he retaliates by asking to see the kids again every other weekend, than so be it. He told Luis this past Saturday when he came to visit them that if it was him to pick him up at school on the day he punched the principal, that he would not be able to sit for a week. He doesn’t understand sensory integration problems and refuses to educate himself on it. Now you see why Norma is so afraid to go to court, for then he will want the kids again and visitation.

Marissa continues to do well, but is suffering from depression. She feels that her brother ruins everything with his anger. She feels ignored by her mom due to the amount of attention this little boy needs and requires. She feels she has to walk on eggshells around her brother. She expressed all this to me at her brothers last blow out and I will tell you, I can see the pain in her eyes and the saddness in her heart. She lives a very difficult life, both kids do for their age. It is not wonder she is so mature for her age. Please keep her also in your prayers. I think this whole family could use a vacation, but no money to do so.

Thanks again for your prayers.

Dear Nana -
Like Rebusrms, I echo the prayer of recommending this family to God the Father. But I will repeat my prayer to St. Dymphna, Sts. Jude and Rita of Cascia, as I hope you pray to them also. But, I was taught by my mother that we’re not supposed to pray for money.

Please, God, so much sadness in the world - You see it all, we only hear about some. Look down and shower Your Divine Love and Mercy upon this family. Help them to grow in You, protect them from all evil and guide their steps to the decisions that are favorable to You. Amen.

Hi everyone and thanks again for your continued prayers.

I have some news but it doesn’t have to do with the kids. Their step mom who is a deputy for the Orange County Police department was badly beaten today. Even though she is very mean to my niece and nephew, she does not deserve this. Marissa knows and is more concerned for her 11 year old step-sister. Norma will not tell Luis until later for he does not handle change well and will need to be told slowly of what happened.

I will post this also for others to pray for her. She has jaw surgery scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Marissa had a nasty fall at school on Friday and hit hurt her head and neck. She is better today. Luis is having more anger outburst due to the neurostimulation of his brain to help his sensory integration problem. I hope this works.
