This past year has been really bad for my family, and we need all the prayers we can get!

I wasn’t sure the best way to do this, so I’m going with ‘bullet points’:
  • Last July my husband and I lost our jobs - days apart - both positions eliminated. I had been with my org 5 yrs, he had just started with his after having been layed-off from a job he had had for almost 3 yrs.
  • Two weeks later, my sister announced she had been cheating on her husband of 30something years, and she was leaving him for the other guy. We had no knowledge of any problems in her marriage to my BIL.
  • A month after losing our jobs, my MIL passed away suddenly in her sleep. She had never met her 2 year old granddaughter. She passed on her 2nd birthday. She lived in another country, and because of finances, none of us could afford the trip from one country to the other. My husband was not able to attend her funeral.
  • A few months later, my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Her second round with cancer - this was Christmas.
  • In January, my husband’s unemployment ran out. Fortunately, I was finally offered a job (THANK YOU, LORD!).
  • A job is a job - and I am grateful beyond belief, my unemployment would have run out 2 weeks after my start date. However, it’s a small organization and the cost of insurance is killing us. I was not able to insure my husband, only me and my 3 year old daughter.
  • I just recently found out the payroll company had neglected to take out $500/month in income taxes. For the sole financial provider of our family, this is devastating. It was already a struggle to pay bills, but loosing $500/month is like kicking a dog when it’s down.
We spent a year struggling after my husband lost the job he had been at for almost 3 years, went through loan modification to save our house from foreclosure. Cut off/out everything that wasn’t absolutely essential. Things had just started to turn the corner - he got a new job, mortgage was back on track, etc… then another lay-off. When his position was eliminated last July, he had only had the job for 6 months.

I feel like I’ve been begging God for the last three years to please help us - even if it’s just to keep trusting that He does have a plan for us and that we will be ok. But I feel like I just can’t do it anymore. PLEASE lift us up in your prayers that this time of trial and struggle will be over soon. I know we will never be without problems, but we need some relief.

Thank you so much and God Bless You!

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance, direction, strength & fortitude in your time of need. Praying to St. Joseph you & your husband to secure employment. Praying for the intentions of you & your family.

Praying for all your intentions.

Eternal God , in whom mercy is endless,
and the treasury of compassion inexhastible ,
look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us ,
that in difficult moments we might not despair
nor become despondent , but with great confidence ,
submit ourselves to Your Holy Will ,
which is love and mercy itself . Amen

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

This prayer of for all your family’s intentions.

Pope John Paul II’s Prayer to the Blessed Mother

Hail Mary, poor and humble Woman, Blessed by the Most High! Virgin of hope, dawn of a new era, We join in your song of praise, to celebrate the Lord’s mercy, to proclaim the coming of the Kingdom and the full liberation of humanity.

Hail Mary, lowly handmaid of the Lord, Glorious Mother of Christ! Faithful Virgin, holy dwelling-place of the Word, Teach us to persevere in listening to the Word, and to be docile to the voice of the Spirit, attentive to his promptings in the depths of our conscience and to his manifestations in the events of history.

Hail Mary, Woman of sorrows, Mother of the living! Virgin spouse beneath the Cross, the new Eve, Be our guide along the paths of the world. Teach us to experience and to spread the love of Christ, to stand with you before the innumerable crosses on which your Son is still crucified.

Hail Mary, woman of faith, First of the disciples! Virgin Mother of the Church, help us always to account for the hope that is in us, with trust in human goodness and the Father’s love. Teach us to build up the world beginning from within: in the depths of silence and prayer, in the joy of fraternal love, in the unique fruitfulness of the Cross.

Holy Mary, Mother of believers, Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.

Amen.

I do not know if you have been asking the intercession of a saint in your prayers to God- such as St. Jude or St. Rita (both patrons of desperate causes), but in your case I would urge you to ask for St. Joseph’s help. St. Teresa of Avila wrote,
  • “I took for my advocate and lord the glorious Saint Joseph and commended myself earnestly to him; and I found that this my father and lord delivered me both from this trouble and also from other and greater troubles concerning my honor and the loss of my soul, and that he gave me greater blessings than I could ask of him. I do not remember even now that I have ever asked anything of him which he has failed to grant.
I am astonished at the great favors which God has bestowed on me through this blessed saint, and at the perils from which He has freed me, both in body and in soul. To other saints the Lord seems to have given grace to succor us in some of our necessities but of this glorious saint my experience is that he succors us in them all and that the Lord wishes to teach us that as He was Himself subject to him on earth (for, being His guardian and being called His father, he could command Him) just so in Heaven He still does all that he asks. This has also been the experience of other persons whom I have advised to commend themselves to him; and even to-day there are many who have great devotion to him through having newly experienced this truth.”*

Here is an example of one of the prayers you could say as a novena:

An Ancient Prayer to Saint Joseph

O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in thee all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph, assist me by thy powerful intercession and obtain for me all spiritual blessings through thy foster Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord, so that, having engaged here below thy heavenly power, I may offer thee my thanksgiving and homage.

O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating thee and Jesus asleep in thine arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near thy heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.

St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen.

God bless.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.
