Prayers after Receiving the Eucharist

What prayers do you say after receiving the Eucharist? Do you say formal prayers or your own words?
 
Hi,

I don’t say prayers after receiving Jesus in the Eucharist. I merely just am content to sit quietly in His Presence.

You can pray the Anima Christi

*Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds, hide me.
Separated from Thee let me never be.
From the malignant enemy, defend me.
At the hour of death, call me.
To come to Thee, bid me,
That I may praise Thee in the company
Of Thy Saints, for all eternity.

Amen.*

Or pray in your own words something like this…

*You, Jesus, is the bread of life
Blessed, broken and shared
You offer us the fullness of life
And the Kingdom of Heaven

Bless the life that we offer
May it be like your offering
A life given
To a world deprived of love.

May we become bread to our neighbor
Giving joy to those in sorrow
Giving justice to those who are persecuted
And rest to the weary.

Amen.*
 
I find myself saying, “Thank you” over and over. I also ask Him to fill me with his presence, to continue to draw me deeper into the Church, to strengthen my faith, and to help me to grow closer to Him.

It’s an awesome time.
 
Sometimes it is just “Thank you” sometimes just talking to him about what I hope he will do with me. Other times it is more formal prayers like the Anima Christi etc.
Totally up to you and your “personal relationship with Christ”.
 
When I get back to the pew I recite St Thomas’ “prayer before a crucifix”.

It gains you a partial indulgence, a full one on Fridays during lent. Like the Anima Christi it’s a traditional prayer that can be found in most publicly provided missiles.
 
I talked to Him the way I would talk to any close and intimate friend. 🙂
 
I pray the Anima Christi and the prayer of St Bonaventure before or after my spiritual communion. 😃

Pierce, O most sweet Lord Jesus, my inmost soul with the most joyous and healthful wound of Thy love, and with true, calm and most holy apostolic charity, that my soul may ever languish and melt with entire love and longing for Thee, may yearn for Thee and for thy courts, may long to be dissolved and to be with Thee.

I usually read a few Eucharist themed prayers from my missal quietly after receiving Communion. One of my favorites is one written by St Thomas Aquinas who is well known for his love of the Eucharist.
 
The prayers listed in my prayer book.
Primarly St. Thomas Aquinas! Outstanding after Holy Communion prayers.
Also the after Communion prayer of St…Padre Pio

the lector or cantor leads the parish in the Anima Christi after communion, there is supposed to be a brief period of silence before the announcements (which I would kill for but sometimes we get lucky).

Ahhh the period of silence after Communion, how blessed is it. I can’t imagine Mass without this. I’ll be praying that you get luckier more often. 😃

Interesting! That doesn’t happen in my parish. I wonder why.
 
Here are the prayers the priest says before and after Communion. They are suitable for lay people as well, or you might them to be inspirational models for your own prayer:

From The Prayer of St. Ambrose (pre-Mass preparatory prayer)
Grant this this sacred foretaste of your Body and Blood
which I, though unworthy, intend to receive,
may be the remission of my sins, the perfect cleansing of my faults,
the banishment of shameful thoughts, and the rebirth of right sentiments;
and may it encourage a wholesome and effective performance
of deeds pleasing to you,
and be a most firm defense of body and soul
against the snares of my enemies.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God (pre-Communion prayer)
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
who, by the will of the Father
and the work of the Holy Spirit,
through your Death gave life to the world,
free me by this, your most holy Body and Blood,
from all my sins and from every evil;
keep me always faithful to your commandments,
and never let me be parted from you.

May the receiving of your Body and Blood (pre-Communion prayer)

and I shall be saved from my enemies.

What has passed our lips… (post-Communion prayer)
What has passed our lips as food, O Lord,
may we possess in purity of heart,
that what has been given to us in time
may be our healing for eternity.

May your Body, O Lord (1962 Missal post-Communion prayer)
May Your Body, O Lord, which I have received
and Your Blood which I have drunk,
cleave to my inmost parts,
and grant that no stain of sin remain in me,
whom these pure and holy Sacraments have refreshed.

I join the singing of hymns, then we sing the following:

We have seen the true light;
we have received the heavenly Spirit;
we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity,
who has saved us.

And then…

Let our mouths be filled with Your praise, O Lord,
that we may sing of Your glory,
for You have made us worthy
to partake of Your holy, divine, immortal, and life-creating mysteries;
keep us in Your holiness,
that all the day we may meditate upon Your righteousness.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
