Dear friends,

I am obsessed with the thought that God will take something valuable away from me. Please pray for me, asking the intercession of St. Padre Pio and St. Dymphna.

Thank you for all your help.

Ben,
It must be difficult having such thoughts and I will pray for your well being.

St Padre Pio, Pray for us.
St. Dymphna, Pray for us.

Some people have obsessive compulsive disorder, can have a genetic component, even. Obsessions are treatable, actually through counseling and/or medication.

However, if one wants to try to tackle them, without treatment, resisting an obsession tends to only make them stronger. Ignoring them generally works better.

Father God, please remove all obsessive thoughts from Ben’s mind. Please set him free so he can better serve you and enjoy life. Amen. :signofcross:

+Prayer Against Bad Thoughts+

O Lord my God, be not far from me. O my God, hasten to help me, for varied thoughts and great fears have risen up within me, afflicting my soul. How shall I escape them unharmed? How shall I dispel them?

“I will go before you,” says the Lord, “and will humble the great ones of earth. I will open the doors of the prison, and will reveal to you hidden secrets.”

Do as You say, Lord, and let all evil thoughts fly from Your face. This is my hope and my only comfort – to fly to You in all tribulation, to confide in You, and to call on You from the depths of my heart and to await patiently for Your consolation. Amen.

Ben, I will pray for you to trust in God’s holy will. I personally understand how hard that is, but if He does take something valuable away, He will replace it with something even more valuable to your eternal soul and in His own time.

Meanwhile, I hope this prayer will help you come to resignation as it has for me:

Lord, I ask much of You
But only You know what I really need, and You love me more than I even know how to love.
Enable me to discern my true needs which are hidden from me.
I ask for neither a cross nor a consolation, but wait in patience for You:
my heart is open to You.
In Your great mercy, come to me and guide me;
put your mark on me and heal me.
Cast me down and raise me up,
I adore your inscrutable ways and put all my trust in You.
I desire only to do Your will.
Teach me how to pray.

One of the things this prayer has helped me realize and come to accept is that God loves my loved ones (i.e., my children) “more than I even know how to love.”

Thy will be done is a most powerful prayer.

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to his assistance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Prayer of St. Dymphna

Lord, our God, you graciously chose St. Dymphna as patroness of those afflicted with mental, emotional, and nervous disorders. She is thus an inspiration and a symbol of charity to the thousands who ask her intercession.

Please grant, Lord, through the prayers of this pure youthful martyr, relief and consolation to all suffering such trials, especially for Ben.

We beg you, Lord, to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna on his behalf. Grant all those for whom we pray patience in their sufferings and resignation to your divine will.

Please fill them with hope, and grant them the relief and cure they so desire.
We ask this through Christ our Lord who suffered agony in the garden. Amen.

Prayer to St. Pio

Through the intercession of Saint Pio, I confidently beseech you to grant Ben the relief of his obsessive thoughts. Help him to imitate Padre Pio’s example of prayerful holiness and compassion, so that he, too, may faithfully follow the Risen Lord, and one day rejoice in the Kingdom, where you live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

++++++++++++++++

I pray that Ben seeks medical help for his obsessive compulsive disorder in addition to prayer.

O Christ Jesus,
when all is darkness
and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
give us the sense of Your presence,
Your love, and Your strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,
so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
for, living close to You,
we shall see Your hand,
Your purpose, Your will through all things.
Amen.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.
