Prayers answered?

I am afraid I am going to come off as strange or nuts, but here goes.

Disclaimer: I am NOT claiming to be anything. Just a normal man.

A couple of days ago I noticed I had a physical ailment (I’ll keep it to myself) that was painful and visibly noticeable. I prayed for the Lord to heal me, even asking the Virgin Mary to intercede on my behalf.

A couple of hours later…GONE!. No pain no sign of anything. What I had should not have gone away without a doctor visit. I wasn’t going to die but still…

Earlier today a friend asked for prayers for his diabetic mother who has been sick for the past couple of days stating it “didn’t look good.”

I prayed immediately for the Lord to heal her and comfort her. A couple of hours later he lets me know that is now doing so much better and things are looking fine. He was really scared this morning and now is at ease.

Being a new Catholic (confirmed this past Easter), I do not want to get carried away with myself, however I do feel like the prayers were answered. The one regarding me makes me pause during the day in amazement.

Am I exaggerating this to myself or…?
 
Prayer never hurts anything, but, I would be cautious in assuming it was solely YOUR prayer as the only thing which affected change for the better.

In such a situation, instead of focusing on the role oneself had, I think it more prudent to just focus thanks to Jesus, Mary, and whatever other Saints you prayed to for intercession.

That being said, good news is never a bad thing and prayer is certainly something which is able to affect good news.

Answered prayer is always surprising in some degree to people. Perhaps that it was answered, or in the manner it was answered.

I suppose the reason for this is no one gets a letter for unanswered prayers stating, “We have received your request, but unfortunately are unable to comply in the same.

I am not trying to take credit for anything. I also am not claiming to be anything.

I am just a little surprised for lack of a better word with the “response”. Real sincere prayer is a new thing for me this year.

Sometimes prayers are answered in subtle ways over time and sometimes they are answered like fireworks.

Thank the Lord that he chose to give you such great “consolations”, as the Saints like to say by giving you signs early on in your faith journey. 🙂
 
I am reading St Therese’s Story of a Soul and this thread reminds me of a palpable way her prayers were answered.

Need I say that in the depths of my heart I felt certain my request would be granted?
But, that I might gain courage to persevere in the quest for souls, I said in all simplicity: “My
God, I am quite sure that Thou wilt pardon this unhappy Pranzini. I should still think so if
he did not confess his sins or give any sign of sorrow, because I have such confidence in
Thy unbounded Mercy; but this is my first sinner, and therefore I beg for just one sign of
repentance to reassure me.” My prayer was granted to the letter. My Father never allowed
us to read the papers, but I did not think there was any disobedience in looking at the part
about Pranzini. The day after his execution I hastily opened the paper, La Croix, and what
did I see? Tears betrayed my emotion; I was obliged to run out of the room. Pranzini had
mounted the scaffold without confessing or receiving absolution, and the executioners were
already dragging him towards the fatal block, when all at once, apparently in answer to a
sudden inspiration, he turned round, seized the crucifix which the Priest was offering to
him, and kissed Our Lord’s Sacred Wounds three times. . . . I had obtained the sign I asked
for, and to me it was especially sweet. Was it not when I saw the Precious Blood flowing
from the Wounds of Jesus that the thirst for souls first took possession of me? I wished to
give them to drink of the Blood of the Immaculate Lamb that It might wash away their
stains, and the lips of “my first born” had been pressed to these Divine Wounds. What a
wonderful answer!

Italic- It’s grand, isn’t it?

The point is, what was prayed for was answered, and that’s the important part.

My apologies ---- I clearly misinterpreted what you meant to say. I attribute that to being tired. I do understand about being astonished that prayers may have been answered. I have to say, that in all my years, I have seen a number of impossible situations remedied with prayer. God bless!

I am still stunned at my physical ailment that just vanished. Wasn’t going to die, but I know that shouldn’t have happened.
 
In the future, if your prayers aren’t answered with such impact, please remember not to give up. We are to pray with confidence and God may not answer when we give up easily. Just in case a prayer isn’t answered so quickly in the future, I wanted to pass this along, so that you will not become discouraged after your wonderful, immediate responses. If you do not get instant results, it is not necessarily a “no.” You said you were new at these, so I wanted to share what I have learned. I keep a prayer notebook and date the prayers I write. It has been very interesting. May God bless you in all your prayers.

I have personally known of physical ailments just vanishing after prayer. Doctors have been left shaking their heads in disbelief. In one case, one person I know, had a heart condition that several doctors agreed required surgery. The condition disappeared suddenly after a prayer group prayed over her. The doctors were left absolutely stunned.
