Dear forum members… I would like to request prayers for my family.

First, my two sisters are both fallen away. One sister is struggling with wanting to return to the Church, has been to Confession… etc., but she is divorced and currently existing in a very unhappy civil “marriage”. She is afraid to leave the situation, for fear that she won’t be able to make it (financially) on her own. That, plus she has 2 kids (23 and 19), and she is afraid of upsetting them with another divorce.

The other sister has been fallen away for well over 30 years. She exhibits extreme hostility toward the Catholic Church and uses the “priest sex scandals” as her reason, for staying away. I’ve tried many times to reason with her… that “you don’t leave Jesus, because of Judas”. Yes, there are some bad apples in the “barrel”… but that doesn’t mean the entire body of the Church is bad. I feel, that she is using this reason as an excuse, to stay away. I am very worried about her… because she hasn’t received the Sacraments in so long.

I also request prayers for my nephew and niece, who are both struggling with personal problems. And prayers for their dad, as well.

Last, but not least… I ask for prayers for my 85 year old mother. She is suffering greatly the effects of old age, illness and separation from our family (who live in another state).

God bless all of you… and thank you in advance.:gopray2:

I pray for your sisters and for your family and for you. Remember St. Augustines mother and her persistance and patience in prayer.

Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Peace!

Praying for you and your family.

PRAYER TO ST. MONICA
Exemplary Mother of the great Augustine,
you perseveringly pursued your wayward son
not with wild threats but with prayerful cries to heaven.
Intercede for all mothers in our day
so that they may learn to draw their children to God.
Teach them how to remain close to their children,
even the prodigal sons and daughters who have sadly gone astray. Amen.

I think you could change this to read like this so it will fit prayers for any person or family member who has left the Catholic Church.

Exemplary Mother of the great Augustine,
you perseveringly pursued your wayward son
not with wild threats but with prayerful cries to heaven.
Intercede for all of us in our day
so that we may learn to draw Your children to God.
Teach us how to remain close to our families,
even the prodigal sons and daughters who have sadly gone astray. Amen.

My prayers are with your family members.

I hope you will add their names and prayers to the other prayer thread about family members fallen away from the Catholic Church.

Glory be to the Father,
To the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the begining,
is now and forever shall be,
world without end.
Amen

HI:

I will say a prayer for your family and for you. :console:

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Those who fall away from their religion are not left by God, he is still watching over them and patiently waiting for their return. My husband and I were away from religion for almost 17 years but God was tugging at our hearts all along until after the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001 and we decided it was time to get back where we belonged. We both had family members who were Catholic and witnessed their deep faith, so we joined RCIA last year.

We all have family members who stray and it is indeed hard to watch them struggle with life’s issues.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. "

Amen.

I will pray for your sister to be open to where God leads her.

Jesus,

You continue to call to each of us throughout our lives and it still requires for us a response. Please instill these souls with courage and confidence to remove the barriers they themselves have placed in the way of serving you best. We pray that they would continue to seek Your face and we await the welcome news of their return. During this advent especially we pray that they would prepare their hearts for Your birth and in that would seek more deeply the knowledge and wisdom we know to be in the Church. Amen.
