My name is Shirlene and I desperately need your prayers, joined with mine. Im new here.

For the second time in three years I am experiencing panic attacks, massive anxiety, deep depression…and a fear of life in general which is overwhelming (I am trying to do this for a second time without meds). I dont know where else to turn but to deep reflective prayer for an hour a day…combined with buckets of tears. In my short 45 years on earth the last 20 have been the hardest…25 deaths (including my dads, sister and my two babies and the rest extended family), a messy divorce after 13 years of an abusive marriage, small pickings after the divorce settlement because the ex put all the money off shore, I have struggled in getting jobs paying more than the minimum wage (in NZ its $13.50 an hour)…my health too has been a battle with an unknown skin problem on my face (of all places) not once but twice as well (similar to severe acne)…and since my divorce a few failed relationships. I now live with my 80 year old mother and the friends I thought were true friends disappeared after my first breakdown. :crying::crying:

I do understand that everyone has battles in life and some worse than mine and my prayers are with them too.

I feel so scared and so alone in this world and now feel that I have failed in everything in life and how can I look forward to the future…when the panic attacks can strike at any moment and any where…my huge fear of driving in traffic that if a panic attack occurs I could harm someone…my fear of going out because something could happen…and the plague of thoughts of WHAT IF this and what if that.

Please pray for me, I know that you dont know me but we are all brothers and sisters because we are all children of God. :crossrc::grouphug:

Pax Christi.

Actually, lina68, I rather feel as if I know you now, after reading your post.

Of course I’ll pray for you. Lots of people pray for you every day and you may not realize it. People you know, people you’ve never met or heard of. People in Catholic Answers Forums, and not just me.

Hang in there. We love you and we’re praying for you.

Don’t underestimate us; we don’t underestimate you!

God bless!

Hail Mary, Full of Grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blest is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

**Holy Mother, please intercede for us.
Hold the sorrowful, strengthen the fearful,
give aid to all needing help or healing,
assist those who are sick, in pain or suffering,
be with those needing peace, console the lonely,
comfort the lost or hopeless, guard the unborn,
pray for those who are dying or who have died,
soften those with hardened hearts,
enlighten those who do not yet see truth,
help us be brave enough to let our hurt and anger go,
show us the way to do the right thing,
protect those who are in danger,
and guide us from every evil.
May all who keep your sacred commemoration
experience the might of your assistance.
Amen **

Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with Thee
Blessed art Thou among women
And blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus
Holy Mary mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death
Amen

Sweetheart, why aren’t you taking your meds??? Drugs exist to make us functional. There is no sin in taking them. I hate to see you miserable when you can do something to help yourself. Do you have a reason–medical or otherwise–for not taking your meds? You don’t have to answer me if you don’t want to, but please try praying to St. Dymphna. She’s helped many of us here at CAF.

Lord Jesus Christ, You have willed that St. Dymphna should be invoked by thousands of clients as the patroness of nervous and mental disease and have brought it about that her interest in these patients should be an inspiration to and an ideal of charity throughout the world. Grant that, through the prayers of this youthful martyr of purity, those who suffer from nervous and mental illness everywhere on earth may be helped and consoled. I recommend to You in particular those for whom we now pray: Shirlene

Be pleased to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna and of Your Blessed Mother. Give those whom I recommend the patience to bear with their affliction and resignation to do Your divine will. Give them the consolation they need and especially the cure they so much desire, if it be Your will. Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

:hug1:

I am sorry for the terrible fear and pain that you are experiencing. I will pray for you.

Thankyou Secretary Monday and Thankyou Needs Mercy for your love and prayers.

To answer your question Needs Mercy…the first time I had a breakdown the doctor wanted to prescribe me Prozac…which I declined due to the fact that I was seriously contemplating suicide and I didnt need something else to push me over that edge…however after 32 days of continuous panic attacks and virtually no sleep and no help from the psychologist I decided to take up the offer…to my amazement when I went to get my prescription I had THE BIGGEST PANIC ATTACK IN 32 DAYS…thats when I decided that God was telling me not to do it. I then placed all of my attention on hours of prayers…Our Lady, St Jude, Our Father, The Rosary etc and I forced myself to go out…drive a little further…regain my confidence (which was thrown to zero at the beginning of the breakdown)…and I started to volunteer in a christian secondhand shop…where I still am however I am on the payroll. However the constant fear has always been there. Also because I take care of my 80 year old mum most of the drugs list side effects as severe agression, helucinations, and the list goes on ( to be honest I would rather cry for an hour or two than take on the list of side effects). I believe that Jesus Christ is our healer…and I know that he also puts professionals on our path to help us thru…but I would rather avoid drugs. Blessings:blessyou:

I respect your desire to avoid drugs; they are not always helpful, and can sometimes cause debilitating side effects. But please know that a panic attack is not necessarily a sign of God’s will. Sometimes God’s will is the opposite of what Panic is trying to tell you. Sometimes a panic attack is just a panic attack; it is terrifying and disconcerting but it is not the voice of God, punishing you or telling you what you should or shouldn’t do. :console:

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Asked St. Jude to intercede on your behalf. Prayed for your conditions to become better and more tolerable so that you can be an even more effective witness to those who are going through similar hardships. My heart weeps for you Shirlene.

Lord Hear Our Prayer!

Holy Michael the Archangel defend us in the day of battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,
by the Power of God,
thrust down to hell, satan and all the wicked spirits,
who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession and was left forsaken. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, a sorrowful sinner. Despise not my words, O Mother of the Word, but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen

Medication is a curious thing. I realize that sometimes, at least for a time, it can even make matters worse.

Case in point…sometimes we start on an antidepressant, and even psychiatrists will tell you to give it, say, 6 weeks…or 2 weeks…or whatever. During that time, it CAN make symptoms worse. However, even so, I still would recommend trying to work with some qualified person rather than going it alone.

If you can hang in there through the initial time for your body to acclimate, you should be okay. Some people try a medication, have it either not work or have a side effect and often give up. Ideally, we need to go back…say, “This didn’t work”. Then, persist till the dosage is adjusted, the time is reached that the body needs to acclimate to it (where symptoms can even be worsened) is passed, or the medication is switched to something else.

I would NOT recommend going without.

If you are unhappy with your psychiatrist, can you find another?

Good St. Dymphna, you placed all your hope in Christ’s promises, and sacrificed even your life in that hope. The Lord, God, rewarded your constancy by making your name known and loved over many centuries by the thousands whom you have aided in time of difficulty. Please assist us now in our present necessity, and intercede before God for our intentions. Obtain for us a firm hope like your own in God’s unfailing protection. Amen.

Thankyou for all your words of encouragement and prayers…gratefully received with all my heart…Many many many blessings to Secretary Monday, pollylodges, jrintenow, fiona margaret, pslam 126, the phoenix…Even though I dont know you all…know that I love you all, with all my heart.:blessyou:
