I hope this doesn’t seem too strange, but my prayer request is for a complete stranger.

Earlier today, my husband and I were on the train heading home. Just behind me, a young man was having a very distressed phone call. I’m definitely not one to listen in on other people’s conversations, but he was speaking so loudly and emotionally due to the circumstances that I’m sure everyone on the train car heard him.

Apparently, a friend or family member of his named Jack had just committed suicide (by hanging) earlier today. 😦 When he got off the phone, other people attempted to comfort and help him. I’m ashamed to say that I was not one of those people…I just sat in uncomfortable silence.

It’s weighing on me a bit now. This man sounded so distressed, and it sounded like he was going to go off binge drinking to deal with the problem. Please pray for this young man that he may find peace and look to Jesus and not alcohol for comfort. And also, please pray for Jack that God may have mercy on his soul. What an awful way to die.

Lord Jesus, please comfort and console this young man. You know his name and heart. Please give him peace and hope, and the opportunity to find You in the midst of this tragedy. You also know your lost child Jack, how he plunged into the depths of despair, and you saw him end his own life. Please have mercy on his soul. Amen.

Praying for this young man’s intentions. Praying for the repose of Jack’s soul.

** Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen. **

May Jack rest in peace and the God of all comfort bring healing and comfort to grieving family and friends.

Mary.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

†

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Prayer for Those Who Have Committed Suicide

Bless, O God of eternal life,
all who have died
by their own hand.
Grant them peace
from their inner turmoil
and the compassion of your love.
Comfort those who mourn
their loved ones.
Strengthen them to face the questions of pain,
the guilt and anger,
the irreparable loss.
Help us to reach out in love
to others who prefer death
to the choices of life
and to their families who grieve.
Amen.
