I recently learned that a close friend of my family who is having a baby soon will not be having her child baptized. She wishes to do so, but her husband is insistent that this not be done. He believes it is “unfair” to baptize someone when they cannot give consent and he claims he resents having been baptized as an infant by his parents. If it wasn’t clear already the husband does not have much (if any) faith and I don’t know when the last time he set foot in a church was. The mother explained how important this is to her to have their child baptized and was able to get a mild concession from the father who said something along the lines of, “You may have our baby baptized but know that I am strongly against it and that I refuse to attend the baptism if it takes place!” Since he “never askes for anything” (her words) and he feels so strongly about this, she feels guilty about going against his wishes. So for the moment she has decided not to disobey her husband and is not planning to have their child baptized when he is born, but the guilt is clearly bothering her.

I ask that anyone who reads this please pray that the Lord will give this woman the strength to stand up to her husband and have her baby baptized after he is born (sometime in September). I also ask that you please pray that her husband will have a change of heart and come back to God.

Not only does this baby need a baptism of fire, so does this family!
I am praying!!

THE PRAYER
SAINT ANNE, BLESS MY FAMILY
My family is the heart of my life.
It is my little Church.
Saint Anne, guard the members of my family
against all physical and spiritual danger.

You lived in the presence of your husband Joachim
and your little daughter Mary.
Later, you welcomed your son-in-law, Saint Joseph,
and above all your beloved Grandson Jesus, our Saviour.

May your family inspire our families.
May we remain united in a deep mutual love.
If my family is broken by separation or divorce,
remain for us the Saint of tenderness and lead us to God.

Saint Anne, you were a spouse, a mother, and a grandmother;
bless all the members of my family.
Keep us faithful to the Lord.

May we remain attentive to the needs of other families.
Protect all families.

Amen.

PRAYER TO
SAINT AGNES
St. Agnes, patron saint of children,
watch over the children of the world;
keep them safe from harm;
be with them in their hour of need;
and always pray for them.

What a foolish, foolish woman, first to marry someone who resists her religion, and then to force an innocent child into this mess. She will have to answer for it, first in this life, and then in the next.

Doesn’t the father know that it is similarly illegal to force medical care on people without their consent? No vaccinations for the baby, then. And what’s going to happen when the kid turns 2 and learns the word “NO”? Is the father going to respect the toddler’s wishes? Some father he’s going to be.

Lord, please look kindly upon the birth of this your child and open the hearts of it’s parents to You and Your love for their child. Whatever is the cause of resistence in this father, bring healing. Touch this family but Your Holy Spirit. Thank you precious Lord, for we ask in the name of Your beloved Son, Jesus our Lord, Amen.

Our Father Who Art in heaven hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

jt - please put this in another thread for discussion and send me the link. I, and others, would like to impart some words of encouragement and advice, if we may. Please?

Saint Rita of Cascia, we pray that you intercede before God on behalf of this wife and child. See that the baby’s mother becomes firly convicted in her faith and that her conscience is wel formed. Impart upon her your spirit of perseverance and doing the best she can for her spouse and child, while leaving all in the hands of God. We have the utmost confidence in your intercession through Christ our Lord, Amen.

I pray the father sees the error of his ways.

Why wait to be baptized? So people can consent? That’s why Confirmation is given to older children! Baptism is supposed to wash away original sin and sort of welcome a new baby into the Church. Isn’t baptism when a child receives his/her godparents as well? Waiting doesn’t seem like a good idea. Life doesn’t always go according to plan.

If they don’t want to be Christians later in life, that is their choice as adults. But parents need to raise their children in the Christian faith so they will have a strong moral and spiritual compass for life.

Firstly, thank you for your prayers (and thanks to everyone else for their prayers as well). 🙂 Second, I will repost this in another thread for discussion as you asked. I think it’s a good idea that will allow this thread to be specifically for prayers and another for people’s opinions and advice on the matter (instead of having both mixed together like is currently happening :o ). I’ll be sure to post the link once I’ve made a second thread for any who are interested.
