I have really been struggling with attachment to sin and contrition lately. There are a few sins I am attached to in particular that until about a year ago I did not even recognize as being sins (or was too oblivious to notice them). Now that I am seeing more clearly and trying to follow Christ by avoiding sin I have found that I keep going through periods of good behavior followed by a “crash” of sorts back into my old ways, only to turn around and start all over again.

I know this is the way it goes for many people and so I am trying not to become discouraged, however I am still quite attached to several types of sin and find that I have trouble feeling truly contrite when I go to Confession. I do continue to go to Confession and I do resolve to try my best to follow Christ, but I am beginning to feel as if I am abusing the sacrament since I know it is highly likely I will fail again in a short time. 😊

I am asking that you please pray that I may be given true contrition for my sins and a stronger resolve to follow Christ. Thank you.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women and
blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Jesus, our Lords peace be whit You.
“Lord, please give jtodisco strength to not sin,
give him a heart that is full of Your mercy,
give him a soul full of Your love,
give him hope for tomorrow,
peace for the night,
send Angels to guard him from all evil,
to all that can kill his soul.
Lord,have mercy and forgviness,
have love to gently show him the way,
Lord,stay by him.”

Lord, may Jtodisco be resolved never to fall into the same sins he is having problems with. So long as he has this resolve, may he not fear going to confession. If her resolves only to “try” not to fall into the same sins that isn’t good enough; please help him to see this. Thank you, Lord, for hearing my prayer. Amen.

Memorize the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. It was written by Pope Leo XIII after a vision showing the future fight the church will have with satan. Pray that prayer slowly, deliberatly, and repetitively whenever you are moved to sin. The desire to sin is not coming “innocently” to you, at that time you are being attacked by devils and demons attempting you toward your weakness. YOU must fight back. Make the prayer of St. Michael your first weapon of choice, and as soon as the “urge” has subsided then immediately pray the rosary.
You cannot fight the temptation to sin with physical strength or will power. Our first parents demonstrated that we do not have it in us to avoid sin. You must fight it with prayer and a call for help.

*“Have mercy on me, O God in Your goodness, *
*in Your great tenderness, wipe away my faults; *
wash me clean of my guilt,
purify me from my sin.

**
*For I am well aware of my faults, *
*I have my sin constantly in mind, *
*having sinned against none other than You, *
having done what You regard as wrong.
**
*You are just when You pass sentence on me, *
*blameless when You give judgement. *
*You know I was born guilty, *
a sinner from the moment of conception.
**
*Yet since You love sincerity of heart, *
*teach me the secrets of wisdom. *
*Purify me with hyssop until I am clean; *
wash me until I am whiter than snow.
**
*Instil some joy and gladness into me, *
*let the bones You have rushed rejoice again. *
*Hide Your face from me sins, *
wipe out all my guilt.
**
*Be my saviour again, renew my joy, *
*keep my spirit steady and willing; *
*and I shall teach transgressors the way to You, *
and sinners will return.
**
*Save me from death, God my saviour, *
*and my tongue will acclaim Your righteousness; *
*Lord, open my lips, *
and my mouth will speak out Your praise.

*Sacrifice gives You no pleasure, *
*were I to offer holocaust, You would not have it. *
*My sacrifice is this broken spirit, *
You will not scorn this crushed and broken heart.” (Psalm 51)

Heavenly Father, in his present need, help jtodisco to believe that you are aware of his anxiety and will do what is best for him. Give him the strength to trust you and put the present and future in your hands. Grant this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
