Hi,
I have never asked for prayers before on the internet, so this is a strange situation for me.
Long story short, I had a job that I enjoyed around 4 months ago. I was one of the first employees, contributed at a very high level, and was well liked by everyone…everyone except the CEO.
The company grew to around 25 people, and one day he just came in and told me that he didn’t think I fit in and fired me on the spot. The situation caused a controversy for the company. As I mentioned, I was well liked, so the CEO at first told the company I had just quit and left for another job. When his lie was exposed, he then told everyone I was regularly warned about my performance and did nothing to address the issues…another bald-faced lie.
To put it mildly, I was devastated. I have a wife and child to pay for and another baby on the way, and now we are in financial jeopardy. I knew the CEO was kind of a bad guy, but I didn’t realize just how bad he was until I was singled out. Apparently, I later learned he has a history of emotional volatility and was fired from his previous company for a similar reason.
We lost our health insurance, and three weeks later I had to have emergency surgery for a strangulated hernia, something which is potentially fatal. As a result of this surgery, not only did I have to pay large sums of money, but I fell into a state of severe depression and missed out on another job opportunity because I was out of commission for a few weeks.
It took me a few months to find another job, but ended up getting two job offers, one with a good company that is a small business providing good health benefits, one with a large company that is hourly with no health benefits, but more money. I was very depressed at the time, and I foolishly took the hourly job with no benefits for the simple reason that they pushed harder, felt pressured, and they gave me the papers one day before the other company.
I immediately regretted it and now hate every aspect of getting up and going to work. After only three weeks, I approached the small business who offered me a job and asked if they would be still interested in me. I explained my situation in earnest to their CTO who was a very good and understanding guy and he said he still wanted me on board and provided me with a very competitive offer. For the first time in months I was feeling hopeful, like I was on the right track. Only to get contacted the day before the deal was finalized because the CEO had implemented a hiring freeze that day. If I had contacted the CTO only a week earlier, I would’ve been in.
Now I feel like I have sunk lower than I was before. I have trouble getting up in the morning and am working from home today simply because I couldn’t get out of bed. I live in the Bay Area where the cost of living is obscene and experiences like this can financial ruin someone. Plus, I am the sole provider for my family and the stress is becoming unbearable. Finally, I am worried about the bad example I am setting for my children.
Anyway, it felt good to type this out. Prayers would be appreciated.
