Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, as I heard the deacon chanting the Holy Gospel this evening at the Mass broadcast from Sydney I was struck again in a very visceral way by a recognition of the profundity and privilege of the deacon’s service at the altar. I am only 23, but even four years after my conversion I still believe that I am hearing the Lord’s call to serve His Church as a deacon.
As I am married and living in the United States, I will not be able to present myself to a vocations director for another 12 years. A lot can and mostly likely will happen between now and then. Pray that, if it is His will, everything that will happen between now and then will prepare me for such a commitment of service to the Lord at the altar and that I will ever be mindful of this call.
