Hello everyone.
I had previously written a prayer request thread on here in August 2016 regarding driving and many of you have advised me to go to a driving school. In late-September 2016, I enrolled in driver’s education course (the theoretical classes) in learning driving techniques and the rules/dangers of driving in my state which is the State of Maryland. The classes lasted for two weeks (Sept. 19th-30th). After, the driving classes concluded, in October 2016, I prepared for the written knowledge exam at the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) to obtain my learner’s permit by the reading the driving manual - I read it twice, but also spent a lot of them taking practice questions through mobile apps and videos specific to my state. Then, October 19, 2016, I went to the MVA; however, MVA told me that I must get my eyes checked before taking the permit test. I was unable to see the alphabetical letters in the machine that MVA told me to read. I had parents ridiculing me about my eyesight and blaming me.
During the next 1-2 days, I went for an eye exam and the results of the exam revealed that I am nearsighted (I had several problems in the past recent years and months to see far away.My primary doctors, acquaintances, professional connections, and professors at my university and places of work all strongly advised me to get my eyes checked as it interfere with other activities and tasks such as seeing the whiteboard/chalkboard/powerpoint slides, seeing electronic displays for transportation, menus, scoreboards, reading the teleprompter.) and I asked my parents then that I need to get my eyes checked and they wouldn’t allow me to get them checked. In fact, they disregarded the instructions that the doctors were telling me and refused me to get my eyes checked.
On the following week, October 26, 2016, I went to MVA with all of my paperwork including medical paperwork and was able to take the written knowledge test. I passed.
Then two weeks later, on November 11, 2016, I started my first driving lesson. Prior to this, my parents wouldn’t practice any of the driving skills with me and just said, “Oh, let the driving school teach you the skills.”
On November 11, 2016, the driving lesson went well and the instructor emphasized to my parents that I need to practice the basics. I had trouble during the lesson staying in my own lane, driving straight, and stopping at road signs before the white line.
Then, on November 15, 2016, problems emerged in the parking lot. My parent kept on saying throughout the lesson that I cannot turn correctly. That I cannot do this thing right or that thing right. My parent blames it on my fear of driving. He also criticized the driving instructor saying that the instructor didn’t teach me anything and believes the instructor taught me nothing and my parent was attempting to teach me their version of turning a car which contradicts what I learned with the driving instructor on November 11, 2016. This made things confusing and frustrating for me and my parent was claiming that driving is easy. I just didn’t want them yelling at me and making me much much more worse. I feel bad and I feel was a fool because I couldn’t mastered turning or anything else. I just feel very sad, stupid, and a fool.
I would really appreciate your prayers for me to learning how to drive, successfully master all driving skills, the driving process, and for me to complete, finished, and successfully pass all 6-hours of in-car behind-the-wheel instruction, to complete all 14 + practice hours (I am over 25), and pass the road test. I do not have any friends and nobody knows about me learning how to drive, other than my parents. I do not have any relatives as they are not in the US and do not know me (there are some out there that do not wish to get to know me). I have not told acquaintances or employers in the hiring process about this as I am very embarrassed and people might ridicule me for learning how to drive late and conquering the fear of driving.
Please pray for me and for this matter. Thank you for understanding.
