Divine Mercy Novena

Ninth Day

Today bring to Me the Souls who have become Lukewarm,
and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. These souls wound My Heart most painfully. My soul suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of Olives because of lukewarm souls. They were the reason I cried out: ‘Father, take this cup away from Me, if it be Your will.’ For them, the last hope of salvation is to run to My mercy.

Most compassionate Jesus, You are Compassion Itself. I bring lukewarm souls into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. In this fire of Your pure love, let these tepid souls who, like corpses, filled You with such deep loathing, be once again set aflame. O Most Compassionate Jesus, exercise the omnipotence of Your mercy and draw them into the very ardor of Your love, and bestow upon them the gift of holy love, for nothing is beyond Your power.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon lukewarm souls who are nonetheless enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, I beg You by the bitter Passion of Your Son and by His three-hour agony on the Cross: Let them, too, glorify the abyss of Your mercy.

Amen.

Heavenly Father,
grant us the Grace to not resist Sufficient Grace
in being drawn not only into the ardor of Your Love
but also into the temperance and wisdom
of our love for our ourselves, our neighbours, and our enemies.
We ask this in particular for our brother James.

In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

today is the Feast day of

St Pius X

Pope Pius X is perhaps best remembered for his encouragement of the frequent reception of Holy Communion, especially by children… Interested in politics, he encouraged Italian Catholics to become more politically involved. One of his first papal acts was to end the supposed right of governments to interfere by veto in papal elections…

In 1905, when France renounced its agreement with the Holy See and threatened confiscation of Church property if governmental control of Church affairs were not granted, Pius X courageously rejected the demand… he denounced the ill treatment of the Indians on the plantations of Peru, sent a relief commission to Messina after an earthquake and sheltered refugees at his own expense.

On the eleventh anniversary of his election as pope, Europe was plunged into World War I. Pius had foreseen it, but it killed him.

His humble background was no obstacle in relating to a personal God and to people whom he loved genuinely. He gained his strength, his gentleness and warmth for people from the source of all gifts, the Spirit of Jesus. In contrast, we often feel embarrassed by our backgrounds. Shame makes us prefer to remain aloof from people whom we perceive as superior. If we are in a superior position, on the other hand, we often ignore simpler people. Yet we, too, have to help “restore all things in Christ,” especially the wounded people of God.

Sacred Heart of Jesus have Mercy on us.
Immaculate Heart of Mary pray for us.
St Pius X pray for us.

Heavenly Father
grant us the Grace to not resist Sufficient Grace
in praying fervently that the wounds
in our brother James life (we all have wounds)
be healed and not handed down
among the nations and generations.
We ask that shame be healed
in our relationships.

In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain who build. Ps 127
Someone was talking to me today about how fearsome it is for someone raised in Fundamentalism to realize that the very Church identified for all those years as the one to avoid at all costs may very well be the One Holy Apostolic Catholic Church built on Peter by Jesus.

And this reminds me of our much loved Apostolic heir JP2 and his first words to us: “Do not fear.”
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear: but of power and of love and of sobriety. Timothy 1:7 DRC
And he said: To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? or to what parable shall we compare it?

It is as a grain of mustard seed: which when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth:

And when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches, so that the birds of the air may dwell under the shadow thereof…

And he saith to them that day, when evening was come: Let us pass over to the other side.

And sending away the multitude, they take him even as he was in the ship: and there were other ships with him.

And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that the ship was filled.

And he was in the hinder part of the ship, sleeping upon a pillow; and they awake him, and say to him: Master, doth, it not concern thee that we perish?

And rising up, he rebuked the wind, and said to the sea: Peace, be still. And the wind ceased: and there was made a great calm. Mark 4:30-39 DRC
Be still and see that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, and I will be exalted in the earth. Psalms 45:11 DRC
HOLY Spirit, Spirit of truth, come into our hearts; give to all peoples the brightness of your light, that they may be well-pleasing to you in unity of faith.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

The LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul;
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

I often wondered about how useful a table would be in the presence of my enemies. I think I was hoping for a sharper weapon than a table. But I am reminded of my grandfather who was a quiet man who wore the same tweed jacket and smoked the same wooden pipe and walked with the same wooden cane through the hills.

He was an arbitrator. His job was to bring peace to warring tribes. And to do that job he would take a table and set it on the ground between two villages. Eventually people dying of curiosity would come and ask him what the hek he thought he was doing sitting in the middle of a barren field with a table.

He would never answer. But one thing led to another and soon people from the warring tribes were talking to each other over the table. And there was peace.

Day One

O my Jesus, you have said: “Truly I say to you, ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you.” Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace of a peaceful and loving heart for our brother James.
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of you, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your tender Mother and ours.

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you do we cry poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, O most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement! O loving! O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us.
Amen

today is the Feast day of

the Queenship of Mary

Pius XII established this feast in 1954. But Mary’s queenship has roots in Scripture. At the Annunciation Gabriel announced that Mary’s Son would receive the throne of David and rule forever. At the Visitation, Elizabeth calls Mary “mother of my Lord.” As in all the mysteries of Mary’s life, Mary is closely associated with Jesus: Her queenship is a share in Jesus’ kingship. We can also recall that in the Old Testament the mother of the king has great influence in court…
Let the entire body of the faithful pour forth persevering prayer to the Mother of God and Mother of men. Let them implore that she who aided the beginnings of the Church by her prayers may now, exalted as she is in heaven above all the saints and angels, intercede with her Son in the fellowship of all the saints. May she do so until all the peoples of the human family, whether they are honored with the name of Christian or whether they still do not know their Savior, are happily gathered together in peace and harmony into the one People of God, for the glory of the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity” ~ Dogmatic Constitution on the Church.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to they protection, implored they help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions
for our brother James,
but in thy mercy hear and answer us.
Amen.

today is the Feast day of

St Rose of Lima

When Rose’s parents fell into financial trouble, she worked in the garden all day and sewed at night. Ten years of struggle against her parents began when they tried to make Rose marry. They refused to let her enter a convent, and out of obedience she continued her life of penance and solitude at home as a member of the Third Order of St. Dominic.

So deep was her desire to live the life of Christ that she spent most of her time at home in solitude. During the last few years of her life, Rose set up a room in the house where she cared for homeless children, the elderly and the sick. This was a beginning of social services in Peru. Though secluded in life and activity, she was brought to the attention of Inquisition interrogators, who could only say that she was influenced by grace…
Rose was the first canonized saint of the New World… When she died at 31, the city turned out for her funeral. Prominent men took turns carrying her coffin…

Heavenly Father,
we lift up to you the souls of those
who run to the comfort of habitual beliefs and practices,
preferring the mores of society and peer groups
to the Way of the Cross
and the teachings of the Church
which Jesus Himself established on Earth
for the propagation of the Faith;
in particular we lift up our brother James.

Sacred Heart of Jesus have Mercy on us.
Immaculate Heart of Mary pray for us.
St Rose of Lima pray for us.

In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
