Please pray for my co-worker who was let go this morning after her 8th unscheduled absence in her first year here. Many times she has come to work and been very troubled having to leave her 10 or 12 yo at home by themselves while she’s at work 30 min away. Her husband’s job keeps him on the road and her mom works. I myself am 2 absences away from termination. I’m grateful to my boss when I was in this situation a couple years ago to convey to me that it might be best to find a back-up sitter. I don’t think my co-worker had the benefit of a manager really driving home to her the weight or status of her attendance.
This just drives home how restrictive our attendance policy is for employess with young families. Six absences in a rolling 12 mo period=written warning (where I am now), 7=final written warning, 8=termination. And, no, you aren’t permitted to make up your time.
Please also pray for the rest of our staff scrambling to fill in for our other agency 2 hrs away till they get a new hire trained. The next step will be to post the job for our agency and hire someone (LOTS of red tape). Not a good situation to be in when our hospital is already in the discrenment process for viability/partnership/buy-out.
