Prayers For My Confession

I’ve recently found a sin (mortal) I’ve been carrying with me for the past five years. I’ve become thoroughly disgusted with myself. I went to confession last week, but didn’t say specifically what the sin was, just said that I’d committed a sexual sin. I don’t know if that was right, or if I should have said exactly what it was I did. Prayer for figuring this out would be most welcome. Advice, too, is desired.

Praying to the Holy Spirit to give you guidance & direction to make a good confession.
 
Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

A priest will generally ask if they think your confession is too vague, but if you are concerned, just mention the sin specifically in your next confession, then be at peace.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

you should call the name of the sin: in confession you accuse yourself. the pain of accusing yourself is a vital part of confession.
but it is also the responsibility of the priest to help the penitent make a good confession by asking for clarifications in cases of ambiguities. How can a priest advice you on how to handle ‘sexual sin’ the way you put it. and the priest would have noticed if he was really LISTENING!

I think you should be at peace. If the priest needed clarification he would have asked. If you do not feel at peace just mention it at your next confession. Sending prayers for your peace.

Praying you will have peace and clarity. I don’t think its sinful unless you intended to be vague and, while knowing you should be more clear, decided not to be. . I’d advise you just to confess it more clearly next time and be at peace. God just wants us to do our best, not say things perfectly, God Bless
