My uncle has terminal cancer and his health has rapidly deteriorated in the last 2 months. He just found out about his cancer 2 months ago, and is already about to enter hospice care tomorrow. He’s given up on chemo, and his wife seems to think that he’s just given up completely. She says she tries so hard to get him to fight but he just doesn’t make much effort, and he’s dishonest with her when she asks him for updates on his progress (he wouldn’t tell her about a blood clot he got, he says he did physical therapy when he didn’t, nurses are now wearing plastic around him and he wouldn’t tell her why). She says the adjectives to describe him these days are “lazy, weak and dishonest.”

She hasn’t given up on him though, but she’s very disheartened because he just doesn’t seem to want to go on anymore and there’s nothing she can do about that. In fact, while she’s still trying to get him motivated, she’s not getting her hopes up and is trying to plan a “survival strategy” for herself.

So I really don’t know what to ask for in prayer. Selfishly (although also for her sake and that of the rest of my family) I would like for him to recover, but it’s hard to pray for something that the person I’m praying for apparently doesn’t want.

Please just keep them both in your prayers. Thank you.

:gopray:

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now ever shall be world without end
Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Remembering your uncle and his wife in my daily prayers. God bless.

What a difficult situation. I will pray for your uncle that God give him strength needed to cope with this illness which must be very difficult. May God grant his wife patience and understanding of his illness. May God ease the stress of this situatian.

Mary.

Thank you for all the prayers.

It’s not looking good though. I was off by a day. He’s moving to hospice care tomorrow (I thought it was going to be today). I don’t have all the details because I live way up north and they live way down south and she’s obviously too busy to do much talking on the phone, so I’m just getting my bits of information from her facebook page. She says he could rally but he could also pass at any point this weekend.

She says two of his friends are in town and the three of them have just been telling stories and coming to terms with the inevitable which at this point is the best thing I can realistically hope for besides him hanging on for a little while longer, but again, I’m not even sure if he wants to.

I don’t really know what to think. But thank you all for the prayers.

Prayer to St. Anthony for Those With Cancer

Dear St. Anthony, you recognized Our Lord Jesus as the Divine Healer. In your goodness and kindness, please intercede for Vash’s uncle, who is suffering from cancer. If it is God’s will and Vash’s uncle’s as well, let healing be granted. Comfort him during times of unbearable pain, and ask our Lord to grant his wife peace and patience. May God give him the fullness of life here on earth. Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

I am happy ro hear his friends are in town. I bet that’s nice for him to tell stories and come to terms with the ending of his life. It might sound to me as a third person observer he is ready for his life to end. That’s ok too. Hopefully he will see a priest as
well and God bless you for caring.

Sorry, by “the three of them” I meant his two friends and his wife. He’s in and out of lucidness in the hospital and can’t really carry a conversation, at least on a consistent basis. I meant the two friends and his wife were telling stories and coming to terms with the fact that they’re losing him. Aside from saying goodbye, the friends are there just to be there for his wife.

Apparently it was very peaceful. A LOT of people from out of town went to see him (I would have, but he was way down in southern Texas and I live way up north) and he was lucid enough to be able to say goodbye to them, and he then he went into a coma and passed a few hours later. I’m glad he was surrounded by a bunch of people he loved and was able to comprehend that. Thank you for all the prayers.

May your uncle rest in peace and perpetual light shine up on him. May the God of all comfort be with you and your family and friends as you grieve this loss.

Mary.
