I’d like to ask for prayers for my family. Me and my mom get at it a lot and it has a lot to do with me losing my patients but also a bad influence I have in my life that I have no control getting out of my life. I am a convert to Catholicism for two and half years and my mom is Protestant. My step-dad is an atheist and my dad is a Protestant. My step-dad hates the Catholic church and originally was Catholic but now he just seems to despise it.

The bad influence in my life is my step-dad and he doesn’t treat my mom with the respect she deserves and he doesn’t treat me with the respect I deserve either a lot of the times. He won’t help my mom with anything around the house as far as house work expect for working outside in the garden but I look at that as more of a hobby then house work and so does my mom. For years he would never complain bringing me to my different things but as I’m growing deeper in my faith he’s trying tear me away from it. Apart from spiritual abuse against me he’s also verbally and emotionally hurting me. I’m on the verge of leaving my house if it gets much worse but at the moment I’m holding in for my mom until I can drive because I’m hoping that will render this. There are other forms of abuse from the past but I honestly love him to much to completely kick him out of my life because I care about his salvation to much.

I know that I am not the one that can change his views only God but my mom isn’t going to kick him out of the house and I’m stuck with him anyway. But I can only take so much before spiritually I’ve had enough. Recently his been attacking me spiritually very harshly and telling me lies from the TV that I know aren’t true. He’s told me on more then one occasion that God is not love because he only says the old testament is valid and that the new testament is made up. I’ve had many breakdowns because of this and I just need strength right now… So prayers for strength in myself and a change of heart for my step-dad.

Also my mother is thinking about converting and I’d like prayers that she goes though with it. She goes to Mass every Sunday with me or without (I make my obligations just at a youth service with my youth group). But she believes like everything that Catholics believe if only she could experience the Eucharist she’d be set! She’s all over it and has such a beautiful soul and I’m just trying my hardest to show her that the Catholic church is amazing but it’s taking time. So just prayers that her soul finds the one true church and that she goes and joins RCIA here soon.

Lastly I’d like to ask for prayers for my dad, not my step this time. My dad is in search for finding another person to spend the rest of his life with. If he gets married again it will be his third relationship. I’ve been really jealous of the woman he did find but I pushed it down because I didn’t want to be like that and I devolved an ok relationship with the woman. He asked her to marry him but they are having problems now. Worst of all he’s not being pure in his relationships and I think he’s searching for the wrong thing in a relationship if you understand what I mean. He often speaks to me in ways I don’t really like but I don’t want to mess up my relationship with him so I don’t tell him. I’m scared of him not wanting to talk to me anymore if I mess anything up with him because he did refuse to see me for 6 months in my past. So if I could have prayers for him also that he does what God intends here because I honestly don’t even know. Also I don’t know but I need strength to one day in the future be able to tell him I don’t like the way we talk sometimes. My jealousy would be something that I’d like to render also but that’s only because he’s finally seeking a relationship with me and it feels like it’s being torn away when he’s seeking another relationship…

I’m emotionally, spiritually, and physically stressed about all this daily and I just need strength to get though the day. It’s hard for me to look at God as a father with the examples in my life daily but I’m beginning to… so please… if I could have prayers for all that I’ve listed it would be appreciated.

sorry for the length…
Taylor.

Taylor it sounds like you have a great deal on your shoulders. You are a sincere and caring person, and I’ll pray that things can work out in a way that helps you all, and that protects you and your Mom from so much stress and pain.
I’ll keep you and your family in my daily prayers.
Please take care of yourself. I ask God to guide you for the best, and if you do end up leaving home for your own personal balance, I pray you can still be of great support and inspiration to your Mom.

Our God I implore You to protect Taylor and Mom’s faith, and protect their health and spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being.
Please give them ongoing grace to grow and deepen in faith, undeterred by others’ bullying or ridicule.
Please let their prayers and witness bring a desire for faith and truth to the Dad and step-Dad.

You do have a lot to deal with.
You and your family will be in my prayers also.
I pray that God will give you the strength to endure.

Taylor I will pray for your family.May our Lord be with you.

Prayer in Time of Suffering
Behold me, my beloved Jesus,
weighed down under the burden of my trials and sufferings,
I cast myself at Your feet,
that You may renew my strength and my courage,
while I rest here in Your Presence.
Permit me to lay down my cross in Your Sacred Heart,
for only Your infinite goodness can sustain me;
only Your love can help me bear my cross;
only Your powerful hand can lighten its weight.
O Divine King, Jesus,
whose heart is so compassionate to the afflicted,
I wish to live in You;
suffer and die in You.
During my life be to me my model and my support;
At the hour of my death,
be my hope and my refuge.

Amen

FOR RELATIVES WHO HAVE NOT THE FAITH
Merciful Lord, who prayed that there be one flock and one shepherd, I ask the light of faith for those who are related to me and do not know You in Your Eucharistic Presence. Give them the joy of Your protecting presence. Bring them into the one fold of which You are the master and Lord. Forgive them their sins and teach them the way of repentance. In the end bring them into the larger circle of Your family, to God our Father, to Mary our Mother, and to You our beloved Brother. Amen.

Dear Lord please bring a bright shining light into this house. And let the darkness go away and your everlasting light take over. Amen.

Taylor, it sounds like your stepdad is just misinformed about the teachings of the Catholic faith like so many other people are or perhaps he may have had some bad experience that you don’t know about. As a friend of mine once told me, we all have our place and the Holy Spirit has given each of us His gifts. Some are called to plant and others to water, and still others to reap. But the source of all goodness is God and we also have the sacraments to help us. I’m praying for you and your family …

Hail Mary,
full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Father, in Jesus name please grant that things can work out in a way that helps all members of Taylor’s family, and that protects Taylor and Mom from so much stress and pain.
Please guide Taylor for the best, and of great support and inspiration to Mom whether at home or elsewhere.

Please protect Taylor and Mom’s Catholic faith, and protect their health and spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being.
Please give them ongoing grace to grow and deepen in faith, undeterred by others’ bullying or ridicule.
Please let their prayers and witness inspire a desire for faith and truth to the Dad and step-Dad.

Thank You, Father

A Novena Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Sacred Heart of Jesus, we know that there is but one thing impossible to You: to be without pity for those who are in suffering or distress. Look down on us, we beg of You and grant us the grace which we humbly and earnestly implore, through the Immaculate Heart of Your most sorrowful Mother to whom You confided us as her children, and whose prayers are all powerful with You. Amen.

Taylor,

Good luck and keep the faith. Keep praying and remember, you can only help things you have control over.

You have no control over your father’s relationships. You cannot control your step-father’s “attacks” on your faith. You cannot control whether or not your mother converts. But you can try to influence these things.
God grant Taylor the serenity
to accept the things he cannot change;
courage to change the things he can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
The wisdom to know the difference is the key. Pray to the Holy Spirit. It sounds like your mom would like to join the church. Focus on that. What is stopping her? Your step-father? RCIA? See if there are obstacles that you can help with.

It sounds like your step-father hates the Catholic Church. Maybe that stems from misunderstanding. Try to understand his points and then do research to counter his arguments. Don’t engage him when he’s angry. Listen to him and then wait for a calm time to tell him the truth about Catholicism.

John Marie Philomena

Almighty God, whose hands hold all matters of life,
give me grace of success in the work that I do.
Help me to give it the careful thought
and the strict attention that will lead to success.
Watch over me and govern my actions,
that I may not mar its perfection.
Show me how to give my best,
and let me not despise the toil that is necessary to complete it.
Make my life a successful one,
in that every duty you give to me,
I do it well.
Give me the blessing of your help and guidance,
and suffer me not to fail.
In Jesus’ name.

Amen.

Everyone that posted to this I just wanted to thank you so much! I don’t know if this is because of all your prayers but I feel that it is and wanted to share it with all of you. I went out of town for the Pro-Life march in D.C. this weekend. When I got back I found out that my mom went to Mass everyday this week while I’ve been gone… this is also the length of time that all your prayers have been going on. My mom originally hated going to Mass/church alone but now just wants to be there everyday. I was completely in shock to hear that she went everyday. She’s loving the community and priests down at my local parish even though she doesn’t know them. She loves being around them and just loves God.

But this all started because I wanted to go to morning Mass and I’m just so in shock to hear that this happened this weekend for her. So thank you SO much for the prayers. Also my real dad seems to becoming very supportive of me studying Theology and that’s a step forward from before when he didn’t want me to join the Catholic church. The prayers are well noted and appreciated far beyond what I can describe… My step-dad’s heart is still closed sadly though so extra prayers for him would be the most appreciated. I don’t know how long my spirit is going to be able living with his influence in my life and this makes me sad because I love him and I hate watching and seeing him push God away more and more because that’s all I’ve been seeing from him 😦
