Prayers. . .and also prayers for the overbearing parent. Until one has been a parent one often does not realize the POV of the parent. Parents, OTOH, although it may seem hard to believe and of course totally irrelevant, were once children themselves, so they can see ‘both sides’. What seems (and let’s face it, often IS) overbearing to the child may seem to the parent perhaps one of the last opportunities he or she has to try to guide or help the child. It may be that the child, while not doing anything wrong, is showing a tendency or attitude toward something which, although it is not wrong and may even be perfectly good, will if acted on in that ‘bad attitude’ tend to convince the child that the attitude itself is correct because the ‘ends’ are pure, and may lead the child astray.
So prayers for all. It isn’t easy being a child. teen, or young adult. It isn’t easy being a parent or grandparent either, and sometimes it seems that the more we love somebody the more we push them away because we think they ‘don’t understand’ and we have such high expectations for their understanding that the lack seems deliberate and hateful. May God bless our struggling families.
