Our family dog has a cancerous lump which is going to be removed tomorrow but which might have spread to other parts of his body. Are there any prayers that can be said for a sick family pet? And, are there any saints to pray to?

PS: Your prayers for “little Timmy” (a 130-pound golden retriever) will also be appreicated.

I don’t know of any special prayers but ask for the intercession of Blessed Anna-Maria Taigi. She used to cure animals when she was alive.I heard someone on EWTN radio talk about their kitten who was sure to die, and they prayed for her intercession and the kitten lived. I pray for her intercession all the time and will do so tonight for Timmy.
As I live in England that will be in about 3 or 4 hours.

I know what you are going through, heres a happy and hopefully encouraging story.

Our golden retriever had a lump removed from her eyelid over a year ago.She was 7 yrs old and it was cancerous. It must not have spread cuz it has not come back and she is a healthly 9 yr old dog, that pretty much keeps up with our kids and our 2 year old border collie.I hope your situation ends as ours did,all is not lost, don’t give up hope.

But,thats the thing,we know they only live around a decade yet we still share our lives with them, why?Because they add so much love and joy to our lives. When I loose a dog,I try and remember how they lived instead of how they left in such a short time.I will pray for your whole family in this time of stress.God Bless.

St. Francis is traditionally invoked as a patron of animals.

And why not ask St. Timothy to intercede for Little Timmy?

I will pray for him as I would anyone else having surgery.

Dogs are people, too! 😃

St Francis of Assisi and St Anthony of Padua are the two best known patrons of animals, and St Blaise is a patron of vets as well - praying to all of them for Timmy :gopray2:

Animals are most definitely people too, they’re just smaller finned feathered and furred versions!

Sir Knight:
Thank you everyone. Really appreciate it.
Please let us know how Timmy is getting on. I probably won’t be able to check in for a couple of days but will continue to pray for him. Give him a hug from me!

The operation went well but the lab results determining whether or not it has spread will not be in for another five business days so please keep those prayers coming. Thank you again.

Man,life is so unexpected. The day I answered this thread,my golden was not eating. We just figured that because she eats twigs, she just had another belly ache.We took her to the vet yesturday and it turns out she had a huge tumor in her belly. The tumor burst and her belly was full of blood. The vet said he would do as we asked(as far as surgery),but he recommended putting her to sleep as she only had about 24-48 hours left without surgery. He also said that it was very possible that we would be spending 1500 dollars to give her 3-6 months of agony, before dying anyway.

My wife held Copper,as I stroked her head, while skilled hands granted her release from this world. We sat with her for a few minutes after and she looked soo peaceful. My kids are torn up by this and its really very hard for me to see their broken harts and tears. My daughter does not understand why God took our dog.My border collie has not stopped searching the house for our fallen golden, this is going on 18 hours now(the breed is relentless in their pursut to keep thier flock together).Everytime we let him out he spends atleast 5 minutes sniffing her tracks in the snow where she stepped just yesturday.

It is my hope that as the Lord created animals to live along side man in the garden of eden, that they are somehow part of the bigger plan.May Copper rest in peace.

I pray Sir Knight that your outcome is brighter than ours.God Bless.

I’m sorry to hear of your loss. I’ve mostly had cats and have lost several. They are part of my family and still are.
I’ll keep you in my prayers along with Sir Knight and Timmy.

Sir Knight&Dilcia

Thank you for your Prayers and kind words. My daughter is now only breaking down once or twice a day, instead of every twenty minutes. The healing process has begun. My border collie is really enjoying the added attention he is now getting. The whole family is starting to remember how she lived, instead of how she was lost in the blink of an eye. When we talk about copper,we laugh and smile at the funny things she did.God Bless.

We just received word that the lab results came back and according to the report, all of the cancer was removed and based on the blood tests, it does not appear to have spread else where.

This is very good news and it hopefully means that once “Little Timmy” recovers from the operation (in about two weeks or so) he’ll be back to normal and as good as new.

I wish to publicly acknowledge and thank the Blessed Virgin Mary, Blessed Anna-Maria Taigi, St. Francis and St. Timothy for their favorable intercession. I also wish to express my gratitude and thanks to my fellow CAF members who offered up their prayers for “Little Timmy”. My sincerest thank you goes out to all of you.
