My father lost his battle with cancer last night. He was 60.

Man went through a lot the past year. From having his left lung removed, going through 12 rounds of chemo, having a met on his forehead (Bone), then having to go through 12 rounds of radiation, having his brain swell, having surgery on his forehead (With a hole as big as the bottom of a coffee cup due to the radiation), to only find out he had a met on his brain, and finally immunotherapy. The last time we got to see his normal self was on Thanksgiving. Things just went downhill after that.

Saddened of course due to losing him, but saddened because the man was tough. Thought he’d beat cancer for good, but he just wasn’t afforded any time to really recuperate. He was acting normally the day after the lung surgery. General surgeon said he was tough. He was supposed to lose his hair and appetite going through chemo. Still had all his hair after the treatment and his appetite decreased slightly the last few weeks of chemo. Oncologist said he was tough. You couldn’t stop the man from doing some housework or errands even if you tried.

If there was one thing I am thankful to God is that I got to experience the man be alcohol free. Alcohol was a demon he couldn’t shake for so long, and it brought out the various shades of drunk within him; even the violent, confrontational type. He was no saint by any means, but who doesn’t have their own cross they have to bear? I got to witness my father take Holy Communion and confess his sins for the first time - and sadly only time - in my life. Reason being he never had his first marriage annulled, and even though his second wife - my mom - had died 3 years earlier, he still felt it was inappropriate to take communion as he still felt he was in the wrong.

Another thing I am thankful to God is that everything we didn’t do with our mom, we were able to do with dad. My mom never had a chance to fight her cancer as misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis befell on her, so she never received the appropriate treatment. She died alone in the hospital. My dad did put up a fight, he was able to see a priest, was able to receive Anointing of the Sick, was able to get hospice care, and died surrounded by loved ones.

I apologize for the long winded post. I hope that whatever suffering he went through was sufficient enough to absolve his sins and that he truly is at peace in Heaven with God, being reunited with lost friends and family. If not yet, then I ask for prayers that he eventually will.

And let’s pray that the devil’s spawn, the emperor of maladies finally gets conquered. Let insight from above inspire those in the medical profession to finally find a cure that eradicates all forms of cancer once and for all.

Praying for him and you and your family. May he rest in peace.

Gracious and merciful Father, please have mercy on his soul, and grant comfort to his family and loved ones.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Praying for the repose of your Father’s soul & for his family. Praying for your intentions.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

May all the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. Amen.

He left a LEGACY of perseverance in spite
of his ill health, that is the MOST precious
gift one can give.

O God, may he have reached perfect contrition
for his sins before he passed away and not have
denied Your Covenanting, Eternal and Infinite
Love embodied in Jesus Christ and His Church,
the Truth, the Way and the Life. May he have
rejected the false promises of the world, the flesh
and the devil.
Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord,
may perpetual light shine upon him,
and may his soul, and the souls of
all the faithful departed, by the mercy
of God, RIP.
Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto him, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the soul of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

I’m glad that your father was given all these graces and blessings before his death, and that you were able to witness them. May God bless you and I’m praying for the repose of your father’s soul.
