WOW!!! To Everyone who prayed for us all in the path of this horrible storm - THANK YOU!
Your prayers worked! At least for me and my family! We thought we were goners in Hattiesburg and Hattiesburg is 50 miles from the coast! We weren’t sure if we would be killed by falling trees or taken by flood waters! I went so far as to put my drivers license in my pocket - just in case! Morbib, huh? We spent the better part of 2 hours huddled in my son’s kitchen - 5 people and 4 animals - with our heads covered. All I could think was, “What are the people on the coast going through?” I have never been so scared in my whole life!
We found out Tuesday night that we had a house! We were afraid that the storm would take it from us! There were trees on top but none put any holes in the roof. There was water damage, not from flood but from blowing rain! There water marks on the walls and my wood floors are warped. My damage is pretty minor, comparatively! My car was nearly destroyed when a tree fell on my car and my son’s truck - cut it straight in half!
All of the necesssities have been fully restored. I just got my cable and internet access Friday - whoo-hoo!!! Things will not be normal here for a very long time! It’s so strange to live in a place where everything you know and love has been completely destroyed. My church parish, rectory, parish life center, elementary school and gym are decimated along with many other parishes here. Plans are already in the works to rebulid - right where it stood before Katrina! We are a defiant people!!! Yeah!!
I could go on for days about all the things and people and how everyone here is working together to help one another - but y’all know what I’m talking about! Oh - one good thing I do have to tell you - Our parish if holding Mass in the Grace Lutheran Chruch here in Long Beach! It’s a little different. It’s quite funny to watch people try to figure out if they are supposed to genuflect or not when entering the pews!!! Look for the candle, I tell them! Oh - and there are no kneelers!! Ugh! Why don’t protestants kneel before God? I’ll never understand!
Anyway, thanks again for all the prayers but keep praying, we still need the strength and fortitude to endure these future trials!
God bless you all!!!
