Prayers from those in grace sin

What is the official Catholic teaching when it comes to prayers from anyone living in grave sin? Does God hear the prayers from such individuals?
 
God has to hear prayers from those in mortal sin, because if he didn’t then we could never get back in the state of grace because he wouldn’t hear our prayer of repentance.
 
More specifically, are prayers from those in grave sin said in behalf or for others of any value from the point of view of God? Does God respond to such prayers?
