Hello friends -

I sincerely need your prayers to rid me of a horrible addiction I have that is often not talked about - porn. It is easy to treat this as something innocent, but I really do not like what it does to me, or where I see it might lead. I have a beautiful wife who means the world to me, and I fear because of my selfish weaknesses I will one day devastate her world.

I need a wake-up call, and I really would like to kick this habit. If anyone has any prayers or suggestions / tips on where I may go for support, I would really appreciate it.

Hello Fellow Sinner! You are in good company. We are all sinners looking to kick our sins out the door for good. Some are harder to let go than others. Porn addiction is one of those that is very difficult but possible to defeat with resolve, conviction, and persistence.

First, Google Matt Fradd; he had a couple of Catholic ministries and one includes porn addiction. There are others out there but Matt seems to be most popular and effective. There are also tons of audio files in the Catholic Answers Radio archives on this important topic. You can download the MP3 files for free, listen to them in the privacy of your car or on your MP3 player, and go back over and over. There’s a lot to learn about porn addiction and it helps to arm yourself well as you go into battle to recover your soul.

You’ve taken a big step in realizing the horror you’re in and wanting to get out. Unfortunately, your experience is not unique: internet porn is affecting billions around the world. No one ever benefits from porn. No one. So continue to pray and be resolved to break this sinful habit. God is with you and we’re with you all the way.

Number 1;
You have to HATE this sin

If you have ANY attachment after you put distance between you and the sin. Then it CAN come back.
Attachment example, “Gosh, I’d love to commit that sin right now, that sin feels so good.”
That is a path back into the sin!

You have to change your thoughts. No impure thoughts. Say no to them all the time.
All times look at the bigger picture; “Heaven or hell. Jesus or satan. Eternal reward or eternal damnation. No, I dont want to be in chains to satan in a pit in hell to be tortured for all eternity. I want to be a saint in Heaven more than I want anything else.”

Number 2
Our Lady never sinned. She was a virgin Mother
She steps on satans head.

When tempted;
3 Hail Marys meaning every word, in honour of Our Ladys purity. Satan flies from Our Lady.

Prayer to st michae, he casts satan to hell.

But you also have to change your own human thoughts too. You need to be disgusted by sin, and choose and LOVE purity and God.

Lord, technology has helped the world in many ways, but it has also proven to be a snare into sin through the lure of pornography.

We ask a hedge of protection against this temptation that has the power to damage families and scar the spirit of both the one who views pornography and those who love those caught up in this trap.

Help keep our minds on You in such a powerful way that pornography holds no allure. Give us the wisdom to remove temptations that we cannot resist, and to always keep You first in our hearts and minds.

Amen.

St. Mary of Egypt is a patron saint against sexual temptations
 
I hear ya JB. Although I’m not married, I’m in the middle of the same addiction. It’s powerful and destructive. It takes courage to admit it’s a problem and seek out help – I’m glad you’ve made that step.

You may check with your priest or online to see if there are any support groups nearby. I began attending one months back, and it has helped tremendously. I’ve found this has been the most help in my own struggle.

If you are a reader, I’d recommend Wired for Intimacy by Struthers and Out of the Shadows by Carnes to better understand the addiction.

You must pray each day for 10-30mins.meaning each word. God gives you desire for holiness and disgust of sin, as well as virtues and victory this way.

You need to NOT look at impure films, tv, books, internet, even ones that are for 12 year olds (google parental review first for ratings on explicit content), dont view.anything for 15yrs or older, they can be terrible evil

Avoid places with sinful fashion sense, and explicit music eg nightclubs

A catholic saint deliverance person with gifts in my country senses waves of evil coming from people involved in pornography. And he’s had to help have houses or rooms used for pornography be given deliverance prayers by a priest
So it is of satan,

My posts if you go to my profile and have a search have what you NEED to do and not do. I’ve put up God’s tips for freedom from this,

You need to sprinkle holy water around your home and devices
devices used for pornography commanding all evil spirits to leave in Jesus Name. AND then bless your room with Holy Water each evening.

Find out local weekly confession times, go each week and keep confessing,
Confess all thoughts associated with impurity also

Its an easy choice if you look at the wider picture

Heaven or hell

God’sPeace or guilt and temptation

To be in a state of Grace with God or be in mortal sin

Number.1 rule,
Do not ever drool over the false pleasures of this sin, if you do, the sin has power over you, your thoughts are your main battleground, win there with God and God gives you victory

So you need to Hate this sin, and Only ever see its disadvantages,

Your life WILL change if you let in the Holy Spirit (and His power), and Our Lady’s intercession.

A priest told me to pray 3 Hail Marys each day for purity. Its a POWERFUL prayer if you mean the words when you pray it. Many saints followed this.devotion.

One prayer to the Holy Spirit each day, ask Him to give you purity, self control, victory over temptations, and disgust of sin.

No one can force you tto decide to sin. Many saints chose martyrs deaths rather than sin. Satan cannot force you to sin, nor your human weaknesses. Its your choice. There is power in saying “No” to sin. Each time you say “no” in thoughts and actions, God.strengthens your armour stronger and stronger. When you say no to sin it loses its power over you, the more and sooner you say no to a thought, the easier it is to overcome sin. The saints have written, If a temptation comes and you say no immediately, the.evil spirit can be completely overthrown and flies from you. If you given ANY thought deliberately over the sin, he can remain to continue to tempt you, which means you have to keep saying no until he leaves.

But you can never let your guard down. Have your shield up.
