Hi everyone - wonder if you could pray for my MIL who is gravely ill in hospital at the moment - my husband and her daughters are at her bedside and, due to her illness, they do not expect her to recover.

The thing is, she is a non-believer. I would have thought because of her age she would have been brought up with some Christian ethos but is certainly not a church-goer. Is it appropriate to pray that she repents before death so she can go to heaven (or at least purgatory) ? Are there any set prayers for this?

I feel quite useless for my husband at the moment, and all I can offer either of them are my prayers, but I am not sure what to say.

Thank you.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen

I will pray for your mother-in-law and your husband, and the family at Mass today.
May God help you to comfort your husband.
And Lord, please gently draw his mother to Your heart.

Friend,

Lifting Mil, you and entire family in prayer.

Peace,
Kathleen

“I am simply content to find myself imperfect and in this I find my joy. Good deeds count as nothing, if done without love.” ~ St. Therese of Lisieux

Praying for you and your MIL.

"Hail Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up pur sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this, our exile. Show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus,
O clement,O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us O Holy Mother of God

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ

Amen

Lord have Mercy,
Christ have Mercy,
Lord have Mercy

Gods’ Peace to you…

Hi everyone - thank you for all your prayers. My MIL, Daphne, died this evening. My husband and his sisters had been with her all day - they just stepped out for a few minutes break (they had been taking turns with this all day so she was never left alone but this time they all went out) and then she passed away. The nurse who was caring for her said that often happens, that a dying person waits to be alone before going - I’m not sure if I would find that comforting or not …

Anyway just wanted to say thanks for the prayers - I know my husband will be comforted that his mum was prayed for at the end. I just hope that God looks kindly on her, and although she was barely conscious at the end, maybe she was fully conscious of Him.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon her. Amen.

We fly to your patronage,
O holy Mother of God;
despise not our petitions in our necessities,
but deliver us always from all dangers,
O glorious and blessed Virgin.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

May your family receive the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

God our Father,Your power brings us to birth,Your providence guides our lives, and by your command we return to dust. I pray for the dead, especially for Daphne. May those who have been dear to me in life find a place with you in heaven. Lord, those who die still live in Your presence; their lives change but do not end. I pray in hope for my family, relatives and friends, and for all the dead known to You alone. In company with Christ Who died and now lives may they rejoice in Your kingdom where all our tears are wiped away. Unite us together again as one family, to sing Your praise forever and ever. Amen May Gods’ peace console you and your family. I will offer the Eucharist for Daphnes’ soul. Peace to you our sister…

Prayer for the Dead
God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen.

A Prayer for a Deceased Woman
We beseech Thee, O Lord,
in Thy mercy,
to have pity on the soul of Thy handmaid;
do Thou, Who hast freed her
from the perils of this mortal life,
restore to her the portion of everlasting salvation.
Through Christ our Lord,

Amen.

A Novena Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Sacred Heart of Jesus, we know that there is but one thing impossible to You: to be without pity for those who are in suffering or distress. Look down on us, we beg of You and grant us the grace which we humbly and earnestly implore, through the Immaculate Heart of Your most sorrowful Mother to whom You confided us as her children, and whose prayers are all powerful with You. Amen.
