Prayers Needed: To Obtain Employment in the Broadcast Television News Field within the United States of America

Hello all.

I recently received a job within my area. While I cannot mentioned the name of the company or the position I am doing, I am thankful that I got a job despite that it is not in my chosen field. However, the job I will be doing is only temporary until I can actually get a job in my field which is broadcast journalism. I graduated from the University of Maryland nearly a year ago with no support from the school. Since then, I cannot find a job as news reporter, news producer, or associate producer across all 50 states within the United States of America. I have applied to over 300 jobs and gotten over 20 interviews, but no job offer. I don’t know what I am doing wrong in the interviews and other aspects of the job search. I have exhausted all of the companies/positions I apply to in the DC-MD suburbs-Baltimore-Northern Va area and cannot get a job there in that location which also where I live because the market is too competitive. I also tried a few international countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom/Great Britain as well as U.S. territories. No luck so far. Therefore, my option is relocation. I have updated my resume to reflect that I am currently working. But, I do not want to do my current job forever. I need a television news journalism job soon. I am concern about my future despite some telling me “it is easier to get a job when you already have one”.

Please pray for me to obtain a journalism job in any of the 50 states within the USA. And, that I can relocate. God, please open doors for me.

You are the patron of families; do not let those who have children to support and raise lack the necessary means. Have pity on our brothers and sisters held down in unemployment and poverty because of sickness or social disorders. Help our political leaders and captains of industry find new and just solutions. May each and every one have the joy of contributing, according to his abilities, to the common prosperity by an honorable livelihood. Grant that we may all share together in the abundant goods God has given us and that we may help underprivileged countries. Amen.

Here is an update on the existing/temporary job I was doing on the week of March 27th:

The temporary job I was doing for work as a canvassing/door-to-door sales job for a local public television (PBS) station.The name and the location of the PBS station will not be mentioned. My first day and week on the temporary job were not great. I had a co-worker who threatened to fire me if I didn’t learn the script. The coworkers kept looking at me very strangely and wanted to know my personal business. No one in these neighborhoods wanted to donate money. I was left on my own to knock on people’s houses. Many of them told me to “get off their property,” “get off their lawn,” "do not come to my home, “do not leave anything on my porch”, etc. I finished knocking on doors earlier and was waiting for a ride for nearly 2 hours in the dark. Some of the co-workers were smokers (they were smoking the car and performing secondhand smoking) which made me very uncomfortable. The person who interviewed me in mid-March 2017 left the company and the staff contacted me while knocking on doors asking me for paperwork that I have already completed. So, unfortunately, the job wasn’t right for me and things didn’t work out due to safety reasons. However, the supervisor was nice enough to forward my name and resume to other departments within the local PBS station.

I am still looking for a job in my field.

I recently had phone interviews with television news stations in West Virginia and the Pacific Northwest (Washington State). I completed employment applications and skill-based tests. One of them (or both of them) are concerned why the job search process has been taking so long for me. They might not understand that the job search process is difficult. The hiring managers are either still in the process of reviewing applicants and/or accepting more applications and doing reference checks. I most recently added “relocation” to my resume as I am not getting jobs in the Nation’s capital, and its surrounding states where I resided in. This means that I am not able to get a journalism job in the DC-MD (Baltimore as well)-Northern VA area, and therefore will most likely have to relocate. I have tried other smaller stations and smaller cities in Maryland and Virginia, but have not been successful. So, I really want to give the out-of-state television stations a chance as I don’t know where the next job opportunity will come from. I am pretty much praying for the doors to open and have a boss so is nice, kind, patient, reasonable, fair, supportive of career goals and able to guide/mentor me in the field and give employees opportunities to grow.

I have come across hiring managers including one in particular in the South who have shown their true colors in the entire hiring process and some of them weren’t nice at all and very discouraging and unsupportive of my career goals.

This past week, I met with an consultant at an employment staffing agency who informed me of temporary jobs that might be the right fit for me based on my skills. The consultant answered my questions about the job search process. I am still in touch with them as I must check in with staffing agency every week. They did do a follow-up call in regards to a temporary office job that was interested in me. Due to severe weather, I missed the call. I am still following up on that as well as other jobs that they might have that fits my skills. Besides from the employment staffing agencies, I am also still trying to find a temporary job on my own preferably in an office or a store with regular business hours or one of the actual work-from-home jobs, such as Apple and Amazon until I can get a job in the journalism field.
