Please pray for my family right now. We need it.
I could go on for hours, but here is the snappy version:
I am the oldest of nine children. We are/were homeschooled until Grade 8. My mum is a SAHM, and we are very traditional Catholics. Right now I am at university and thus removed from the action, but believe me I am kept updated.
My 14-year old sister has serious attitude/behavioural problems. I’m not talking about simple teenager bad attitude, but what is more like downright sociopathy. She refuses to listen to a word anybody says, is doing poorly at school, has eating disorders, violent outbursts, lies, and behaves in all things with undiluted selfishness. My parents took her to a psychiatrist, but she refused to speak to her until the psychiatrist “dumped” her. She also refuses to talk to “stupid old priests,” and my parents fear she is questioning her faith.
Compounding this problem is my 17-year old brother, who also has behavioural problems and was recenty diagnosed as monopolar manic. This fellow storms about the house, refuses to do any work of any kind, rages against “the system” and generally makes everyone miserable.
I don’t mean to rant, but to show what life is like for my poor mum, who bears the brunt of everybody’s buffoonery and (unjustly) partly blames herself.
Not really looking for advice- we have loads, unless it’s really something no one else would think of. Just prayers.
Please. My parents are at their wits end.

Wow, we are about to pray the family Rosary and will include your family, especially your parents to have the grace needed to deal with your sister and brother and to know what to do for them. There has to be a reason for all this. I assume they are the youngest of the nine?

You are a good child to pray and worry for your parents and siblings. I feel for them. It reminds me of some of what my sister had to go through. It is difficult on everyone, the parents, the siblings, the aunts and uncles and grandparents when they hear of the struggles.

You have my prayers. Please keep us updated. We are a homeschooling family as well. By the way, what does SAHM stand for? I figure the HM stands for Homeschooling but I could be wrong. What is the SA stand for?

No, that’s the worst. They are two of the oldest next to me (there is a brother between them who thankfully is all right). The little kids (ages from 3-12) have to put up with constant fights and outbursts between these two and each other and between them and my parents (NOT my parents fighting each other, thank the Lord, though you can imagine this isn’t doing wonders for their marriage either :().

Thank you so much for your prayers. There is some thing planned on monday, some specialist or other, but my mum is afraid my sister will refuse to go, and I am horrified to say that at this point my mum feels physically threatened by her.

I feel really helpless as all I can really do is encourage and pray, and my parents feel more helpless because they are doing all they can, and nothing seems to work.

SAHM = Stay At Home Mom

Jade Tiger you may also like to post this in Prayer Intention forum, where, by the way, no advice is to be given but only prayers. It’s possible you will receive advice in the Family Life forum where advice is customary.

I can imagine the distress your parents and all of you feel. (I’m the second eldest of nine and know how many complications can arise.) As the children grow, even if carefully home-schooled in a Catholic atmosphere even such parents are not spared. My sister home-schooled hers with a Catholic program…and there were difficulties with at least some of the children in one way or other…so I do sympathize. It’s a shock for parents when their best efforts seem in some ways to have been for ‘nothing’.

I’ll pray for your family, for these troubled ones, and for the protection of your other siblings, that they will not be adversely affected, and for your parents, knowing that as the children grow and difficulties develop, it is one of the hardest and most confusing times for parents who have to find a way to cope, to grow stronger, to try to deal with discouragement and helplessness in the most beneficial ways.

God bless your parents and your siblings, and may God bring whatever guidance and grace is needed to help your two troubled siblings to develop in a balanced and blessed way.

May God grant His most kind blessings to you and your family

Jade, one of my sisters didn’t have faith, was contrary, a great worry to my mother.
She is now a wonderful Catholic, has achieved a great deal in the community where she lives, even received a government medal for her voluntary work.
It took a few years, but she got there! God grant that your sister will flourish soon

Yeah, well, maybe a little advice would be fine :p. We need all the help we can get.
Thanks for all the support and prayers!

Lord, grant your abundant, powerful graces to Jade and family, that they may all cultivate in their lives the virtues of patience, wisdom, and understanding, and especially love. Grant them guiding angels to steer them toward these and all virtue. You promised that the Father would give great gifts to those who ask (Matt. 7:11). Please hear these petitions and bless this family with great gifts. Mary, pray with us. Amen. :gopray2:

Father, please help this family find the way to happiness through Your Grace, Amen…

I’m praying for you and your whole family. Jesus we trust in You!

Lord, lay your healing hands down on everyone in this family and give them what they need. Amen.
