I’m really worried. :(My Mom is very seriously sick, and I can’t help out like I want, and I’m having a very hard time making ends meet. I have lots of student loan debt and I have to send in my tax returns tomorrow but no idea how I’m going to pay them. Will have to ask them to let me pay in installments hopefully they will let me. I have a tentative job offer for a job paying a lot better but it’s taking forever to get approved and it might not go through I am barely keeping the light bill paid right now. I know a lot of people have it worse than me and I try to remember tem and be brave but it’s hard and I give in to sinful thoughts and worries all the time and it makes me upset. Thanks for your prayers if you can take a moment to remember me, especially though my Mom and my family caring for her and her doctors and nurses, I’ll remember the intentions of all of you who stop and take a moment to read this as well. God bless you. :blessyou:

Our Father who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen. :signofcross:

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen. :signofcross:

Jesus, Help Me Prayer

In every need let me come to You with humble trust, saying:
Jesus, help me!

In all my doubts, perplexities and temptations:
Jesus, help me!

In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials:
Jesus, help me!

In the failure of my plans and hopes, in disappointments, troubles and sorrows:
Jesus, help me!

When others fail me, and Your grace alone can assist me:
Jesus, help me!

When I throw myself on Your tender Love as a Father and Savior:
Jesus, help me!

When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good come from my efforts:
Jesus, help me!

When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me:
Jesus, help me!

When I am ill, and my head and hands cannot work and I am lonely:
Jesus, help me!

Always, always, in spite of weakness, falls and shortcomings of every kind:
Jesus, help me and never forsake me. – Amen

Prayer to the Blessed Mother

Blessed Mother, please intercede for us.
Hold the sorrowful, strengthen the fearful,
mother and love the weary, abused, neglected
or forgotten among us,
give your aid to all needing help or healing,
assist those who are sick, in pain or suffering,
be with those needing peace,
console the lonely or brokenhearted,
comfort the lost or hopeless,
guard the unborn,
pray for those who are dying or who have died,
soften those with hardened hearts,
enlighten those who do not yet see truth,
help us be brave enough to let our hurt and anger go,
show us the way to do the right thing,
protect those who are in danger,
and guide us from every evil.
May all who keep your sacred commemoration
experience the might of your assistance.
Amen

I know you asked for prayers, but I hope you don’t mind if I add a couple of other things. If they don’t apply to you, please leave them for someone else who could benefit from them.

Had you tried calling up your utility companies and asking them if they have any assistance programs available? Some do.

Also, do you qualify for any other assistance. In NYS, they had a utility program called HEAP. When I was in dire straits, I got, I guess a couple of hundred dollars from that, per year, since I qualified. I’ve been off that for many many years, but it helped a lot getting me through bad times, especially around the time I was first disabled.

Programs vary from state to state, I think.

Do you qualify for any other forms of assistance? With food or anything else?

Had you tried going to your local Catholic Church, asking about assistance from St. Vincent de Paul?

Also, do you have a local Catholic Social Services? Explain your situation, and ask the social worker there what other resources you might qualify for.

Sometimes, Goodwill will do an assessment, (their office, not the store), and if they can’t help, they can sometimes know the community resources, refer you to someone who can.

Goodwill will also sometimes give someone a voucher for some free things from their store, clothes, possibly furniture.

Can you get a deferment for your student loan? Sometimes, they can give you a little more time. See one example of how this works.

As to food, there are food banks. See below to see if one is near you.

There is a program called TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). You would need to search under the state for more information.

There are food pantries, soup kitchens.

I know the government used to have a cheese program, that they’d give free cheese.

The utilities often all have a free program. In ones I’ve had, they would give away some free energy-saving products. One place gave away free hot water tank wrap and a free water/energy-saving showerhead. They also gave valuable tips on how to save energy.

In one place I lived, I was new to renting. I had ALL electric, heat, hotwater, and oven. They advised I just lower the temperature on the hot water heater, and just by doing that, alone, I was able to save some money.

I had also been keeping the house very cold, down to about 42 degrees when I was gone, in an attempt to save energy. They explained I was probably using MORE energy, that if you used more than 5 degrees in temperature, it took more energy to heat the place like than to maintain a more constant temperature! So, I suffered so much in vain, did better after the energy evaluation (audit) and also felt better, since I have arthritis and breathing problems!

Do you qualify for health benefits…Medicaid?

Oh yeah, and I learned the utilities often offer “budget billing” so that the payments are more predictable and stable throughout the year, don’t spike so much.

Once, I did some babysitting to pick up a little extra cash to make ends meet and had a garage sale of stuff I wasn’t using.

Another time, I would make arrangements with others in my life. I had transportation problems, and my friend had childcare problems. We worked out an agreement I’d help her with childcare, and she’d help me with transportation.

One year for Christmas, I had Christmas decorations but no tree. She had a tree, no decorations! We got together, and between the 2 of us, we had a nicer Christmas!

Another place I lived, I would take buses except for a larger shopping run. I got together with a neighbor, share a cab, splitting it between the 2 of us. We also got into coupons, the buy one, get one free. She’d buy one thing, and I’d buy another.

We came up with all kinds of creative ways to save money and help each other.

Some churches have a program around Christmas time where they have trees they stick up on a wall with lists for poor or needy people.

Lists might include anything from diapers to toys.

We had those every year at the Newman Center, and I had a friend who had that at his Church of the Nazarene. Once, he saw one of those by a woman who had a child with cerebral palsy. He was making good money, got her EVERYTHING on that list! So, one never knows.

Oh, if you need any medical equipment, Goodwill often has a medical section. Well, in addition to used clothes, people donate used wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches. I’ve even seen them have adult diapers.

They gave me my manual wheelchair, which I have to this day. Once, they lent me a showerbench. Another time, they gave me some special shoe/boots for people with ankle problems.

So, keep that in mind for adaptive equipment.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph for the Unemployed

O Saint Joseph, we pray to you for those who are out of work, for those who want to earn their living or support their families.

You who are the patron of workers; grant that unemployment may vanish from our ranks; that all those who are ready to work may put their strength and abilities in serving their fellowmen and earn a just salary.

You are the patron of families; do not let those who have children to support and raise lack the necessary means. Have pity on our brothers and sisters held down in unemployment and poverty because of sickness or social disorders. Help our political leaders and captains of industry find new and just solutions. May each and every one have the joy of contributing, according to his abilities, to the common prosperity by an honorable livelihood. Grant that we may all share together in the abundant goods God has given us and that we may help underprivileged countries. Amen.

Dear Clearwater: Thanks for your kindness and all the suggestions. It sounds like you know about how to help others when they really need it because youve been there too. I really very much appreciate it. God bless you!:signofcross:

Prayer to St. Jude in times of Desperation

Oh glorious apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered thy beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused thee to be forgotten by many, but the Church honors and invokes thee universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who am so miserable; make use, I implore thee, of that particular privilege accorded thee of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly financially, and that I may bless God with thee and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise thee, O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor thee as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to thee. Amen.

St. Jude, pray for us!
