My 4 year old is just coming off a several hour middle of the night tantrum and I feel so pushed to the limit with him. He’s very strong-willed and requires about 95%+ consistency just to know that yes, in fact, I do mean what I say, and of course he needs to continually test it.

When he feels like it, he can be a very sweet and loving kid, but right now he’s mad that he’s not in charge of the universe. I figure it’s better for him to learn that now at 4, but gah. His 2 year old brother is much more easygoing and has figured out quick that life is better when you listen to Mommy and accept discipline without upping the ante.

I know that what my older son needs is continued consistency and loving correction to get out of the cycle of bratdom, but it’s sapping a lot of strength. So all your prayers are appreciated!🙂

I have your son…just in female form.

My 3 year old is acting like this…thank-goodness it’s during the day and not at night.

She did try this at one point. When her sister was an infant…she was waking up every single night at all hours to make her demands and then flip when they weren’t met.

I know how exhausting it can be…especially with the stress of another pregnancy.

Keep up the consistency. It will die down eventually…hopefully.

Prayers for you.

 That sounds awful! I said a prayer, and I don’t care if it’s 8 in the morning and you’re pregnant, I’m still passing you a virtual drink. 😛 It sounds like you need it!

sigh This forum doesn’t seem to have the beer smilie, alas. Here, have some cake instead! 🍰

Could your 4-year-old be getting sick?

In our family, when our oldest is particularly evil, it’s because she’s just about to get a fever. It’s a little tricky, because she doesn’t have it yet, but the evilness itself is an early warning sign.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

He seems to go in cycles, and when it ramps up it’s both day and night (he spent over an hour yesterday just in time-out, and I need to find a new spot because he’s decided he would like to destroy the rug by the door while he sits there.) He’s never been a fan of sleeping, and he knows we’re more vulnerable to capitulate to him then so that we can get back to bed and so he doesn’t scream and wake up his brother. I am not willing to deal with this situation when I have a newborn baby in the house, so it’s ending now - and little Mr. I-think-I’m-in-charge doesn’t like it one bit.

I will gladly accept any virtual food and beverage. 😃

He actually tends to be very sweet and docile when he’s sick, so I don’t think that’s it. If there’s any external reason, it’s probably that it’s been exceptionally rainy and stormy here lately, so I’ve had to scale back time outdoors. Plus even with A/C, high humidity does affect things in the house, and our ceilings are too low for fans there. I want to get a fan to put in the boys’ room, but it’s tricky figuring out a place where I could put it where it would actually be helpful and also be out of reach.

Thanks all for your prayers, please keep them coming. DS is a leeeeeeetle better today (and he actually slept past 6am for the first time in I don’t know when.) I know I’ll need to keep it up long term to see results.

OK, somebody’s really good at this intercession thing.

 Both kids are napping at the same time.

(UbiCaritas: I am celebrating with a rare midday bowl of ice cream!! All to myself!! Woohoo!)

I’m sure this cycle is far from over, but right now I’m celebrating my quiet afternoon. 😃

Y’all are awesome. :grouphug: And God is good! 👍
