Some background to the title of this thread…

My husband has been in commission only sales for quite a while. There was a short time when he was a Controller of a business in PA, but for a short time. He is doing something ‘interim’ now in retail.

He has always loved sales, and has been productive in it. At times, the pay is great, at other times…unpredictable. I have been praying for a long time…LONG…for God to provide my husband with something more consistent. And the only jobs that come his way, are these. He had a few interviews when we moved here that were not commission only, but in the final stages, he was passed up for someone else.

I am not sure what God is trying to tell me/us, here. We are very blessed…my job is going very well, is consistent…but suppose someday it isn’t? I think about these things. My husband is not a complainer, and just keeps trying hard…and he is good at what he does, but just wish he could find something consistent, and not so up and down.

I told God today that I am tired of asking Him about this. He has to hear me. I have asked St Joseph to pray for us. So what happens? An employer is trying to recruit me for much more money than I’m currently making. Um, that was not the answer I was seeking. Wrong person, God. Close though. Same household.:o Don’t get me wrong, I am exploring it, and whatever God’s will is, we will abide by it. But, still. Why my husband find something more predictable? He sends resumes all the time, and has some interviews lined up for the new year-but sadly, I have lost hope in this. Like they will be another let down. 😦 He is working in retail mgmt–and it is more consistent, but my husband chose this because the commission only gig that he was doing, was too unpredictable. Retail is not where he wants to be, though–too many crazy long hours–and weekends, but for now, until he finds his pie in the sky, he is doing this.

We are blessed…believe me…we have all that we need and want. I thank God all of the time, but I can’t help but wonder why this situation has gone on for so long. (over 5 years)

Have you ever felt confused as to why a certain prayer is not being answered? Should I give up asking God for this? I’m very sad today…sorry.😦

I am sorry to hear this Sharon. With a background in Sales perhaps he could start his own business?

Maybe. We have always thought that we could get a loan to get him into his own insurance business…like buy a State Farm, or something…they will support you for like the first year or something, but we are not settled into the home yet, we are renting this year being in a new area, and so maybe that might have to wait.

I am most grateful to God. I guess I just don’t understand His plan, at times. It’s easier to accept, when we understand His plan, ever notice that?:o

Yeah I do and I also notice that your Inbox is filled so you might want to clear it up so that people might want to send you a message:D

To us, there seems to be only one reasonable thing to ask God, but to God, He has million reasonable anwers to respond to our single request. 🙂

My thoughts are take the money and run if they’re offering you more. With the job market probably unpredictable - your husband might find himself a new job that turns out not to be as promising as expected. While God isn’t about money, He has His reasons, and St. Joseph has interceded for you. For all you know God is helping you and your husband make ends meet if things don’t go well with a new job your husband takes.

I always thought St. Joseph was patron of fathers, the Universal Church, a happy death - and helping to sell houses. But congratulations and don’t question why God answered you differently!

That is a good way of looking at it! I say all of this at the risk of sounding resentful. I don’t want to have a complaining spirit, and I don’t complain for the most part…but I do sometimes wonder why the job that he has given me, seems to have worked out over the years, but for the past 5 years, my husband has had his share of ups and downs. I feel for him, because he is very smart…works hard, yet he can’t seem to find something that is consistent. (from a pay perspective) With commission sales, there are highs and lows, not all lows–but it is the unpredictability that can be unsettling.

Now, he is in retail in the interim…but, I know he wants to get back into insurance. He has a company that is interested in him, and he just needs to transfer his license over…so, maybe 2008 will be a brighter year for him. I am grateful…maybe I shouldn’t ask this request of God anymore. Idk.:o

I think he is the patron saint of workers, also?

Good points. I don’t know…not sure why God isn’t answering this prayer.

WG, I think God the Father hears all His children’s prayer, but as we know His time is not always our time frame.😉 If your husband really likes insurance and is good at it, I would try and strike out on y’alls own and forget working for someone else.😃

There is ALWAYS a reason for prayers seeming to go unanswered…ALWAYS. And even though it seems that prayers are unanswered they actually ARE answered ALWAYS. It’s just that maybe they’re not answered in the time frame we expect, or they might be answered very differently than we expected but always answered. It’s really tough for us at times as we can’t see what’s ahead, or what is actually good for us, but that’s where our faith and trust in Him comes in.

This morning at Mass the priest had a very good homily about every experience we have is for a reason. Our experiences are all meant to prepare us and mold us into what God wants us to become. Everything that happens to us has God’s hand in it.
Hope that helps!! His sermon sure helped me today!!

Blessings and Prayers!

I don’t really think there are any unanswered prayers. I think all prayers are answered, but we may not like the answer, refuse to accept it, refuse to listen to it, or not even be aware of it.

Yes, my child, you have asked for something that is my will for you and through which I can act in your life.
No, my child, you have asked for something that is not my will for you, and which will not be good for you in the long run. I am wiser than you since I am all Wisdom, so accept from me what is good for you.
Not at this time, my child, I am working in you to prepare you for this, but you are not yet ready.
My child, I have a gift for you, not the one you asked for, but the one I want you to have and use for My glory and to bring you closer to Me.
