I was wondering if you can pray to any Saint about certain things.

You know when you have a certain problem and you look for the Patron Saint of that problem and find a prayer that helps you with that problem, well, what if I wanted to pray to a different Saint for this problem? Maybe you like a particular Saint and would like to pray to this Saint for lots of different reasons?

Thanks.

Hello Nelka,

I consider a lot of the saints like my friends in heaven! Like any friend, you ask for help, why not ask a saint for intercession that you have a friendship or affinity with? I think, if I was a saint, and someone on earth wanted my help, I’d be excited to do so, right? Just my two and a half cents. 🙂

Absolutely. We can pray to the patron saint of lawyers for success in farming, or at school. Patron saints are good to know about and pray to but it is not rigid. It is more important that your faith is stimulated, that you are connecting to God more deeply. The example of the saint’s life is important. BUT many saints prayed to God that in exchange for their work and sufferings, that God would grant them the ability to help others while they were alive AND after their death.

I am still interested in the stories of saints and how their prayers are still answered.

You may pray to any particular Saint for any particular intention, or to all of the Saints. God bless you.

I have certain favourite saints and I pray to them for everything.

First, a person does NOT Pray to a Saint (at least, not Catholics).
A Catholic will Pray to God, and ask the Saint to intercede with God for you.
This means, that I ask the Saint to help get my Prayer onto the Altar in Heaven.

Second, you don’t have to “pray to any Saint” … you can pray to have ANY person in Heaven to intercede with God for you.
Catholic-ordained Saints, however, probably have more Power to get your Prayer on that Altar.

Third, every one of the 10,000-or-So Saints, WANTS to be of help to us peons down here on Earth.
So, as others have said, any Saint can be called upon for any problem.

And, like marlap2 said :** “why not ask a saint for intercession that you have a friendship or affinity with?”**
I have 2 favorite Saints, and they Love me.
I make it my usual method, to ask them for help in having God act on my Prayers.

You are right. When I say I pray to saints what I really mean s that I pray to them to intercede for me.

Our dear friends who look directly upon the face of God, be they Saints or Angels, are not jealous of one another. Each is delighted when you share your concerns, your needs, your hopes and desires with any one of them. They love God, and they love one another – and they love you, too.

I ask saints with whom I am most familiar or with whom I feel the greatest affinity to intercede for me. I tend to feel more comfortable with certain saints than others so I ask these saints to intercede for my concerns. It feels more like asking a friend to pray for my concerns if I am familiar with a saint whose writings I read or who has had similar experiences to mine. Besides the patron saint designations often seem to miss aspects of saints’ lives.

Hi. Great question. I think saints go in and out of popularity. Saints closer to our time or place are more popular. An example of a once wildly popular saint, ignored now is Thomas a Becket. His popularity did not survive the Reformation and the destruction of his shrine at Canterbury.
