What does one say in a prayer to Mary that does not make it incorrect (idolatry or blasphemy ?) I know that we ask for her intercession with her Son, but can someone give me examples of appropriate things to say ?

Many thanks,

You can say a lot.

Check out this link:

It’s the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is a very old prayer of the Church.

BTW, don’t be too hard on yourself or over-react if you find yourself uncomfortable praying to Mother Mary or any of the other saints. It took me a good long while–a few months–after I converted to get comfortable with the practice.

But believe me, She grows on you! 😃

Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee, ( the salutation of the Angel Gabriel)

Blessed are though amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. ( Her cousin Elizabeth’s greeting)

Holy Mary mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death amen. (The Church)

If you find anything blasphemous with the above, then Gabriel, Elizabeth, and the Church were idolitors and blasphemers.

How about, “Dear Mother Mary, please intercede for me with your son, Our Lord Jesus Christ for…”

No, those lines are beautiful. Thank you.

I’e been working on my prayer life and in praying through Mary. My priest had recommended praying the Rodary. I pray for Mary’s intercession for me to Jesus, or for her help in bringing me closer to Jesus or I just dedicate a decade of the Rosary to ask mary to intercede with Jesus to help another person.
After praying the Rosary for a while you will find that it gets easier and you actually find yourself more comfortable in talking to mary. I’ve found that Mary has a way of letting you know that she also hears you and intercedes for you. After all she is our spiritual mother.
I don’t know if this helps but it comes from one who is still learning right along side of you.
God Bless
