Prayers to Saints, Angels etc

when did prayering too the Blessed Virgin. Saints, Angels etc. start or when was this proclaimed as truth that we can pray too them and ask them to pray for us and also did people before Jesus do this as well?

It goes back to the OT. In the OT you see the patriarchs in dialogue with angels. You see it also in Luke’s Gospel. Then again in the Book of Revelation when John speaks about those who stand before the throne inteceding for us.

The tradition was carried forward by the Apostles and the first generation of presbyters and bishops who would celebrate the mass over the tomb of a martyr and they would include the martyr’s name in the Eucharistic Prayer.

The Fathers of the Church also included Mary in the prayer life of the Church.

There was never a proclamation, because it was always part of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Some things do not need to be proclaimed. They have existed from the start.

this started in the early Church… of course in Apostolic times no one prayed to Mary cause she was on earth but later on, people started asking Mary for prayers just as they asked other Saints and martyrs in the early Church.

we ask them to pray for us… just like we ask our friends the Holy Spirit unites the Church, and the Church is not only on earth, but in Heaven and Purgatory as well. (Church Militant, Church Triumphant, and Church Suffering).
