Praying at abortion clinic for the first time tonight

And I am nervous. I don’t know why, but I just have a fear about it.

It’s our parish’s day today for the 40 days for life event, and according to the sign-up sheet on Sunday, there was only one other person in our time slot. I’m nervous about standing out in that bad part of town alone.

Should we expect there to be other people there or will our parish be the only one? Is this 40 days for life thing drawing a lot of crowds?

I had the same fear. A lot of people come who don’t sign up. I was there with one other person in Seattle and by the end of the hour there were 10 of us. So don’t worry. They will come! Call some friends up and ask for their support. It is a peaceful protest where you pray. You don’t have to go up to people or even respond to people. Just pray if you are nervous. I had one lady just join us for prayer because she saw us doing it. Then she left. You never know who you will touch. Ask the angels for protection and go!

May God bless you for your efforts in fighting abortion. I wish I could go to an abortion clinic to pray and/or protest. However, there is none in my area (thankfully).

Well, our time slot was at 7 pm and I was really unsure if anybody would still be there. I was right, nobody else showed up. So, instead of standing out there alone in a bad neighborhood, we went to the Adoration chapel and prayed there instead.

Maybe I’ll go on a Saturday morning sometime.

Tuesday was our parish’s day to pray at the clinic. There was a sign-up sheet to pick a one hour time slot. The last slot was 7pm and that was the only one I could pick because I had to wait for DH to get home to watch the kids. As the previous poster said, it’s supposed to be a constant presence at the clinic for 40 days.

Like the previous posters said, it’s supposed to be 24 hours a day for 40 days. The prayers during the hours the clinic isn’t open still can be applied to the girls who go there the next day and the babies who were aborted there that day or the next day. It also demonstrates to the community that there are people who are against abortion. The clinic we pray in front of is on a very busy street 24 hours a day. I think it makes a great impact when they see someone there all time. Some of the people we’ve prayed with late at night have had some really dangerous and grizzly looking poeple come up to them in the middle of the night. When they find out why they are praying, they are typically confused, but leave them alone. Those are the people who could probably use God most. Who knows what kind of seeds are planted.

My family has committed to two hours: 9am and 2am. The experiences during the times are very different but both valuable. At 9am I’m the only person there and am more focused on handing out information to the people going inside than praying although I do pray, my prayers get interuppted more. At 2am, its very peaceful and I find that I have a lot more time for really good indepth prayer which does help to strenghten me for the 9am shift.

I started two weeks ago, and it was wonderful.

We said the rosary, chaplet, I read some from my St Faustina book, we chatted about politics, and various things. Two women brought their daughters by (7 in total) to pray, we each took a decade, and it was so heartwarming to hear 10 year olds lead a rosary and participate. As the only guy that night, I was responsible for holding up our sign for traffic (which gets tiring after a rosary and chaplet, but what I am going to do, ask the 9 year old girl to my left to take over?? )

It was awesome, and I am going back for trip number three tonight.

We had a number of people (women generally) drive by and honk and give us a thumbs up. It was wonderful.

I was nervous the first time, but after that, I actually missed it. Hope you have a wonderful experience.
