During the time when everybody else is lining up to receive the blessed Host, what do people here do?

I tend to watch the priest raise the Host for each communicant and pray the Jesus prayer each time someone receives from him.

Any other prayers or devotions anybody would like to offer?

If you are unable to receive, it would be good to make a spiritual communion.

If you have already received, it would be good to make acts of faith, love, and thanksgiving.

All of the above can be found in a good Catholic prayerbook or missal (Daily Roman Missal or a traditional missal).

(Based on the spirituality of St. Louis de Montfort) I like to pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was the first to receive Jesus’ Body and Blood into her own. I ask her to loan me her heart, that I might receive Him with love like hers, as she did at the Annunciation.

Then I just ask the Holy Spirit to prepare me to receive Jesus, long for Him, welcome Him, thank Him …

Up until the communion hymn is announced Hubby and I follow the Mass text in our Missals. Then we start praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and are able to complete it by the time the post-communion silence has ended. We believe that this is a most efficacious time to pray for mercy.

After receiving I pray the Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me
Body of Christ, save me
Blood of Christ, inebriate me
Water from the side of Christ, wash me
Passion of Christ, strengthn me
Within your wounds, hide me
Never let me be separated from you
From the evil one, protect me
At the hour of my death, call me
And bid me come to you
That with all your saints
I may praise you
Forever and ever
Amen
