praying for a spouse

My best friend is 41. She’s awesome: talented, beautiful, spiritual, and a revert. She has gone through discernment with a group of sisters and seen that marriage is her vocation. Well, I’ve been praying for a spouse for her for a few years now. But I feel a lack of wisdom on how to do it. “Please God, hurry up” doesn’t seem quite right, although that’s how I feel. I want her to be a mommy! How do you pray in this situation? My standby is “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done.” But is there anything more pointed?

If anyone does know, I’d like to hear it for my eldest son who is 39, lonely, never married. Sense of humour, generosity, warmth, a great smile, hard-working in his own business…but a lack of confidence. I’ve never found that “hurry up God” ever worked. Careful subtle match-making never did. Once in a while I found a prayer melt-down worked with God, but not regarding my sons’ marriages or lack thereof!

Trishie, like your son, I am also 39 and still waiting for my husband to come and claim me , so I completely understand the loneliness and sadness involved.
