My wife’s mother (to whom I was very close) passed away on Dec 18. She was a Baptist her whole life and loved the Lord very much. I am new to the faith, so bear with me. What happened when she died? Is there something I can do, like pray for her soul? Thank you in advance for your answers. God bless.

Definitely pray for her soul. Make acts of reparation ie. fasts etc… and most important of all, have some Masses said for her.

**Prayer of Saint Gertrude the Great **
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family.
Amen.

Yes, yes, yes, pray for her at every opportunity. Since Protestants don’t believe in praying for the dead someone needs to pick up the slack. You can also have Mass said for her.

God Bless You.

That is a very good advice.

Also, the prayer / novena that I would use is the Divine Mercy.
Especially Easter coming, and there is a novena that you can use…at anytime …and during the Easter.

And the Chaplet which I pray every day:

God bless.

It is a natural thing to pray for those who have died. What happens after death we don’t really know. The good thief was promised that he would meet Jesus in Paradise that very night. However some of us die with issues unresolved. Purgatory is the anteroom to heaven, not a sub-department of Hell. Prayers for souls in Purgatory probably don’t work by some sort of divine magic, rather, like letters to a prisoner, the fact that the effort has been made speeds progress to early parole.

God bless you yo are on myprayer chain Peace be with you. It is wholy and a good thing to pray for those who have passed away.

May God’s peace, love and mercy be with all of you!

Aside from offering sacrifices, prayers, holy mass for our dearly beloved departed loved ones, we can also offer our holy communions for them and for all the poor souls in purgatory till the end of times y receiving our Good Lord Jesus in a state of grace. This helps greatly in relieving the sufferings of the poor souls in purgatory.

Through God’s infinite mercy and love, may we all be prepared to appear to Him in an instant in our true home in heaven. God bless!

Blessed be Jesus and Mary!
