I was friendly with a younger coworker named “T” who has had some unfair circumstances in her life. I have shown her tremendous compassion over the past 3 years we’ve worked together and bent over backwards to try and give her the benefit of the doubt when she’s behaved poorly to me. I became appalled by her behavior and found her to be quite greedy and obnoxious. I felt taken advantage of and attempts to let her know this tactfully and peacefully didn’t work. She bit my head off and was enraged when I tried to gently let her know in a sisterly way how others may perceive her as bratty and entitled. I was very patient with T and tried to understand her and why she might be behaving this way, and I cut her a lot of slack, but finally, I had had enough.

In anger, I complained and ranted about T to a third person we work with, who then told her. The third coworker had promised not to say anything and that she understood I was just venting and “we all need to vent.” Even though the things I said were all true/factual, with the exception of one that was my opinion, I did not need to say them aloud.

T is an extremely volatile, angry young woman and I am dreading interacting with her now. When she confronted me via text, I denied saying the things, for fear of her becoming unstable and exploding in anger. T became enraged anyway and didn’t allow me to say another word, blocking my number and removed any social media connections. T has made things very difficult for others who have offended her and has gone to great lengths to retaliate, so I was afraid of her doing the same to me. I cannot afford to become involved in a dramatic situation. I am not exaggerating when I say that T can turn the place upside down with her behavior and make things horrible. The environment we work in is very unprofessional and so, her behavior has been tolerated overall.

Bottom line: I shouldn’t have said the things in the first place. I should have prayed to God for help moving past the hurt and frustration I felt at who T turned out to be and for strength to ignore her bad behavior as long as it did not impact me directly. I am sorry for being weak and allowing hurt and anger to take over.

I am praying that there are no repercussions, negative consequences, confrontations or problems for me as a result of this incident. I never want to be friends again, but we work together weekly and literally work side by side. I pray for help not allowing guilt to put me back in a bad situation or decide to be friends again. I pray that T calms down and that I take the high road and remain completely calm on the inside and out. (I am actively searching for a wonderful new job at another company where I can use my talents (see my other prayer posts) and to get out of the type of environment where this behavior is allowed to occur.)
